Sweet and spicy dry rub air fryer chicken wings are easy to make, crispy, packed with flavor, and perfect for eating with any dipping or wing sauce you love.
So if you follow along for daily nonsense on Insta (@hungryhobbyRD), you know that I recently impulse purchased an air fryer after the last straw battle with frozen mushy green beans made in my beloved Instant Pot. Long story.
Anyways, a friend asked me how I liked my impulse purchase, and I told her I need a little bit more time to decide before I gave out an official recommendation. I mean, I’ve only had a week or two.
So far, I’ve made crispy green beans from frozen, sweet potato fries, bacon, grilled cheese, and now these delicious crispy wings. I’m planning on doing a full review as soon as I test out more recipes, but so far, as far as the four items I just listed goes, I’ll never cook those any other way, but in my air fryer, ever again.
I honestly don’t know why it took me so long to get one of these, I hate mushy food and the air fryer is the ultimate no mushy food machine.
I’ve made wings in the oven, in the slow cooker, and most recently on the grill.
You can get a nice crispy result in the oven if you have 45 to 60 minutes to spare.
Slow cooker wings are a nice change of pace for tender fall off the bone meat, but no crunchy crispness.
Grilled wings are delicious but require constant care to ensure they don’t burn.
Air Fryer wings, though, are the easiest way to get delicious crispy wings with the most minimal effort and time invested. I opted for a dry rub so that these would be versatile enough to eat as is with your favorite dipping sauce, I love ranch, but creamy chipotle sauce, honey mustard, ketchup, or barbecue would be delicious too!
You could also toss them with your favorite sauce. Y’all know I’m partial to chipotle sauce recipes like my honey-chipotle sauce and my BBQ chipotle sauce. But, old fashion Franks Red Hot would do the trick too!
Okay, so, let’s get down to the business of how to make them, then you can decide what you want to dip them or toss them in!
How To Make Dry Rubbed Air Fryer Wings
Start by patting dry your wings (must be defrosted for dry rub to stick well.)
Then, you’ll want to combine all the ingredients for the dry rub in one small bowl, bag, whatever. Next, you’ll toss the wings with oil and maple syrup, and then it’s time to get your hands messy! Using your hands, rub the dry rub all over each chicken wing. It’s the only way to get them fully coated!
Then, you’ll place the wings in a single layer in your air fryer, so you depending on your make and model of air fryer, you might have to work in batches. That’s one thing I love and hate about the air fryer I bought, it’s huge for big batches of food, but it also doesn’t fit in any of my cabinets, so it sits on my limited counter space.
I cooked mine for 30 minutes, flipping the chicken halfway through. It was so easy, and I ate half the wings right after I finished photographing them, that’s how good they were! I can never go back to not having these in my life. It just can’t happen.
After we polished these off, I immediately changed my Butcher Box to have wings in every box, and even that might not be enough! My air fryer can stay, even if it is bulky. Let me know if you try these wings, and I thought they’d be perfect for those of you celebrating Memorial Day this weekend but don’t want to hassle with the grill! Or maybe in addition to the grill, you do you.

Getting ready to make your sweet and spicey air fryer wings, they sound yummy! To keep them warm do you put them in a crockpot on warm or what do you do?
Thanks, Regina

Hi Regina,
This is probably too late, but we just use the reheat function on the air fryer. Hope you loved them!
