Happy Monday, friends! Checking in with another pregnancy update! So happy to be wrapping up the second trimester and on to the third!
Overall, when people ask me how I’m feeling, my usual response is “so much better than I did with KJ.” Which is 100% true. I just feel like, despite the inconveniences listed below, nothing has been half as bad as how I felt with KJ, BUT I’m guessing the Phoenix summer heat had a lot to do with that!
Second + mamas, did your pregnancy differ, or were they about the same?
PREGNANCY POSTS FROM HUNGRY BABY #2:
Week 24 – Orders Orders Orders
I started this week with ZERO energy. All I wanted to do was sleep all weekend. Likely due to a few days of training insomnia and having to get up to pee in the middle of the night now. Luckily sleep, and therefore my energy slowly came back. We ordered a dresser in white from Buy Buy Baby that is supposed to be here in mid-April (due date early May.) This made me HIGHLY anxious because I LOVE to nest/organize, but all my friends said they experienced the same sort of COVID-related furniture delayed orders. So, I just let it go.
I also ordered one last piece for our Baby Jogger City Select Lux stroller. I would have waited, BUT it seems like they are slowly discontinuing optional pieces with the stroller, so I wanted to have it. I also ordered this hospital gown and this baby warmer wipes dispenser.
I’m really missing long runs and other forms of cardio. We have an awesome gym in our house, but our rower broke last year, so I only have the treadmill for cardio. I won’t be joining the peloton club because biking flares my SI joint, but I am really, really, really missing the Stairmaster option at the gym. I thought about going to use stairs at the community college or high school bleachers, but I’m terrified of falling, so no go.
I got to see some of Baby’s kicks from the outside this week, so that makes it all worth it, right?!?! No one else has seen them yet though, by the time I try to show people, he stops, of course!
Week 25 – More Orders & Office Rearrangement
Thankfully prego insomnia eased up a bit this week, whew! Despite better sleep, I felt a little edgy this week. My mouth issues started to come back and was a bit painful this time. I also experienced an achy tailbone when sitting on our hard dining room chairs for too long. Since it looks like Mr. Hungry will be working from home at least two days a week going forward, we re-arranged our office and bought a new office chair at Costco so we could each have a comfy chair and desk. It only took us almost a year since COVID started, haha.
The big thing I scored this week three ollie swaddles! I’ve wanted at least one of these expensive swaddles since I learned about them in the Taking Cara Babies newborn sleep course. They’ve been on backorder pretty much since I got pregnant, but then I got an email allowing some pre-orders. I was on the computer all morning refreshing (even had my MIL doing it while we went to a preschool interview). Eventually, the orders became available, and I was able to get three!
I ordered two new sports bras, which are SOOOOOO much nicer than the Amazon ones I had previously. And some new sized up underwear. I’m not trying to squeeze into my pre-pregnancy jeans, so I figured the same goes for underwear, haha! Just keeping it real y’all.
For Fun: Week 24 & 25 Pregnancy With KJ
Week 26 – Glucose Test
This week started with the oh so fun 1-hour glucose test. I’m always so annoyed that I have to go to the actual lab place (versus the doctor’s office), but then it’s not a big deal at all, AND they actually get my blood drawn on the first time. (Less experienced MA’s at the doctor’s office often takes 2-3 times.) Anyways, I guess my keto style breakfast worked because my value came back low.
I also had mouth surgery #3 (for this pregnancy), woot woot! This one hurt a lot more than the past ones did, so that kind of sucked. (If you haven’t been following along, I have something called a pyogenic granuloma that happens in 1-3% of pregnancies. Lucky me!)
Fatigue came and went. I could feel many things shifting this week as I started to feel weirdly uncomfortable, especially in my belly’s muscles and skin. On the positive, I got a super sweet gift from a friend that I can’t wait to use!
With KJ, I used all pre-made baby food because the whole baby thing just overwhelmed me and all the food sensitivities. I’m excited to have this to make the whole homemade baby food thing easier this time around!
On another unrelated note, holy sugar cravings this week, especially for cookie dough! Mr. Hungry got me a small cookie dough blizzard, which was the perfect treat! I’m all about indulging then moving on, which is exactly what I did! If I had tried to ignore it, I would have obsessed about it.
Week 27 – Potty Training
This week we decided to begin potty training with KJ. I don’t think I could tell you my name this week, much less, pregnancy-related symptoms I was having or not having. But I know I was excited to see the third trimester coming! I had a doctor’s appointment at the end of this week where I found out I passed my GDM screening and that I was up 2lbs from the previous appointment.
For the last two months, I was up 8lbs each month, so I was happy my efforts to focus on more veggies and protein had helped slow things down a bit. I didn’t diet. Weight loss in pregnancy is never a good idea. I just paid more attention and tried to get in more veggies with most meals. I actually found myself craving more veggies in general, especially salads, so it wasn’t that hard.
(PS I was reading in that update about the stabbing SI joint stuff. Yep. I have that again, especially if I stand for long periods of time. It will be interesting because at 28 weeks last time, I got put on modified bed rest, which meant no standing for longer than 2 hours. I’m not having any cramping this time, nor am I on progesterone, so, so far, not necessary this time. It will be interesting to see how being more active will change things with the SI joint. Usually, working out helps keep it stable, so I think it will feel better.)
That’s it, friends! Hope you have a wonderful week!
