Before we get started if you haven’t entered to win an Instant Pot on Instagram make sure you do that now!
I’m just stopping by today to share with you my awesome baby shower I had over the weekend! Get ready for lots of pictures! My friend Jenna so offered to plan the shower for us. She sent me 3 or 4 themes to pick from but we pretty quickly decided we loved the idea of a basketball-themed shower. Mr. Hungry and I love to watch basketball together (especially our wildcats) plus it seemed like a laid back fun way to celebrate!
Jenna did the planning but we decided to host it at our house since we are in a pretty central location for guests coming from both the west and east valley. We turned our gym into an activity center with Jenna’s planned games. Look at how well the decorations in the gym matched the theme, almost like we put them up just for this occasion! (We didn’t, they are are our normal home gym decorations.)
The first station was a basketball guestbook!
The second station was a burb cloth decorating activity. We did this for my SIL and she used the heck out of those burb clothes so I’m excited to have so many! These are the burb cloths we got. To decorate you can use a permanent marker pack or fabric markers. Fabric markers will last a little bit longer especially since they will be washed so many times.
Since the baby shower was 10 AM -1 PM we figured the most appropriate alcohol to serve was mimosas! And we even got a bottle of non-alcoholic champagne for me at Total Wine!
For food, we ordered from Gyro Express in Chandler. Unfortunately, no one got any pictures because we were too busy enjoying ourselves. But here is a picture from when we went to test out their food before Mr. Hungry’s parents placed the order.
After we ate we played the price is right game. Everyone guesses the price of each item in the basket, the person who guesses the closest for the total WITHOUT GOING OVER wins! When we played this game at Jenna’s baby shower I literally guessed like 300 dollars over. I didn’t play this time around since I wasn’t eligible to win, I’d like to say I would have done better but let’s be honest I probably wouldn’t have.
We also drew a winner for the diaper raffle! Diaper raffle instructions were included on the invitation. Basically, you get a ticket for each box or package of diapers you bring. I ended up with a TON of diapers, totally set now! We set up the playpen and a plastic bin for all the gifts and diapers.
The showstopper was this SUPER cute cake my mom got from Barb’s Bakery in Phoenix! Oh, and BONUS, it was SALTED CARAMEL on the inside. SO FREAKING GOOD!
We also shared the baby’s name with all our family and friends, so now I’ll share with you guys! First, please know that I call Mr. Hungry on the blog Mr. Hungry and not his real name not because we don’t’ want you guys to know (it’s P.a.u.l without the period marks which will make his name unsearchable in this post)
It’s really because when he googles his name I don’t want the blog to pop up with a thousand images of him. Back in the day, I posted this picture of him walking down the street drinking a beer on the way to the pool in a weekend recap. Then I realized when we googled his name that picture came up. From then on I changed his name to Mr. Hungry and stopped naming pictures of him on the blog as his real name. Really just so that no unprofessional images would come up if someday a potential employer were to search his name. Pictures like this because I can’t resist sharing that one.
For the baby, I haven’t decided what “code name” I’ll come up with. It’s not because I don’t want you guys to know the baby’s name. It’s because I don’t want him to google his name and have his entire childhood show up on google. Right now I’m calling him hungry baby but I’ll need a new name when he gets here so let me know your suggestions! I’ll share the story behind his name soon!
We gave away little bottles of tequila for the guest gift, because it’s my favorite alcohol. The little saying my MIL thought of was so cute!
After just a handful of close family and friends were left we opened a few gifts. I don’t like opening gifts in front of people, it just makes me feel really really really awkward (and anxious like what if I say the wrong thing or don’t act happy enough etc or don’t know what the item is because I’m a new mom etc..) so we skipped it except for from a few really close friends. I think it was much more fun that way, not so much pressure!
I realized I didn’t get any pictures of me during the shower! I was too busy hanging out with everyone, but before I changed we got this photo of us and Mr. Hungrys parents which I think is super cute! (Dress is from Motherhood Maternity, it’s Jessica Simpson. Here is the link. I’ve had it since I first got pregnant but just now really fill it out! I got my normal size, small since maternity clothes are always bigger.)
That’s it! It was a wonderful day, we felt so much love for Hungry Baby and can’t wait for him to meet everyone! On Sunday I did ALL of the baby’s laundry (outfits, blankets, towels, and sheets) and that felt even more amazing! I seriously cannot wait, I know the next 6-8 weeks is going to FLY by!

Loved reading your recap of your baby shower. The games seem so creative. You could totally do initials for the baby such as first initial of his first name and middle initial of his middle name which would be KA. Just a thought 🙂

I love that idea! Thanks Kelly 🙂
