These healthy protein desserts are a delicious way to meet your protein goals and satisfy your sweet tooth at the end of the day.
We eat an early dinner around here, about 5-6 pm, with the kids. So around 8 pm, I often get hungry and crave something sweet. That’s when I love to have a little protein treat lying around. Having a higher protein dessert vs. something sugary satisfies my sweet tooth and tastes delicious. Plus, it will keep me fuller for longer than two seconds. (See: How to quit late-night snacking.)
If you remember from my getting started guide, getting enough protein is in the top five of my goals for my clients when they are getting started with weight loss. But weight loss isn’t the only reason to focus on getting enough protein. Protein helps keep you fuller for longer, builds and maintains muscle mass, as well as aiding in steady blood sugar levels.
You may be thinking, okay, that’s great. But shouldn’t I stop eating after 5 pm? This myth persists despite my best efforts in busting it. Eating something before bed, especially protein and carbs, can help you sleep better. In addition, if weight loss is your goal, I typically recommend a 12-hour fasting window. So, if you are going to have breakfast at 7 am, then 7 pm would be your cut-off. Etc. But, it’s not like anything you eat after 5 pm is going to immediately be a detriment to your waistline or health. It’s what you eat and how much you’ve eaten throughout the whole day that matters!
These high-protein dessert recipes have at least 8 grams of protein, but many of these recipes have 15+ grams of protein. So, they are a much better choice than traditional desserts. I sourced these recipes from my blog and some of my blogger friends. Therefore, these recipes are the best go-to sweet tooth satisfying way to hit your protein goal at the end of the day. Enjoy!
