Hi friends!
A week after we brought baby Genie (KJs new nickname for her) home, KK turned two years old! I haven’t done a KK update since he was 18 months old, so I wanted to pop in and make sure I shared a little bit about our now middle child.
Just about every picture is blurry and fuzzy because the kid never stops moving. At KK’s two-year appointment, he was 90th percentile for height and 95th percentile for weight. 40th percentile for head circumference. So, he’s a big boy! Not surprising because this year, every day we took KJ to preschool, he would try to run into the classroom. The highlight of every morning was saying hi to KJs teacher and then trying to get past her into the classroom. I always thought it was funny how he looked just as big as some of the preschoolers in KJs class and that he could easily fit right in.
KK’s birthday theme was wild two because that’s exactly what he is. Like his brother at this age, he runs at a dead sprint everywhere he goes. KK is full of curiosity, independence, imagination, and destruction these days. He is a little sponge that picks up on everything, but mostly on everything his brother does. He loves to assist his brother in bug hunting, watering the garden, and anything else his big brother will bring him in on. But he also holds his own now if there is a toy he doesn’t wish to be separated from or something he’d like his brother to share. He also has started to instigate trouble a little bit. We can no longer assume his big brother “started it” KK is now just as likely of a culprit. And at only 3 pounds less than his brother, wrestling is quickly becoming a more even match by the day.
It’s interesting because KK is extremely verbal. He can say complete sentences and phrases, mostly used appropriately. Because of this, it can be challenging for his big brother to understand that KK is only two, and although he sounds like he understands, he doesn’t. (Actually, his language skills and size often have strangers assuming he is a preschooler. People ask if he and KJ are twins, which blows my mind because they couldn’t look any different, but I guess they mean fraternal twins, maybe?) But, at the same time, because he is so verbal, the boys have become fast friends, especially in this last month with their new sister at home.
KK has transitioned to his big brother role relatively well. He loves to give her “her unicorn” and turn on the swing for her. The first week we brought the baby home, I noticed he did a lot of observing. He patiently and quietly watched us. It reminded me a lot of how he acted from 9-12 months, with a lot of patience and quiet observation, mostly of his brother but also of his family. He still only gives air kisses instead of real kisses and is a little unsure about her. But he’s a gentle soul by nature. Gentle enough, Missy (our cat) is happy to let him pet her and hang out with her. I still watch him like a hawk around the baby though because toddlers are still toddlers.
I can’t imagine life without our little blonde hair blue eyed boy. He’s always surprising us, keeping us on our toes, making us laugh, and bringing joy wherever he goes. His love for just being with his family and exploring the world around him is infectious. Happy Birthday, KK!
