Dear Baby KK! You are not a squishy happy baby anymore but in full fledge Destructo toddler mode! We’ve joked over the last six months that you need man-to-man coverage, one person with dedicated eyes on you at all times.
You started walking around 13.5/14 months old, and your speech has EXPLODED. Lately, you often string together 2-3 word sentences such as saying hi and bye to things and people or asking for something or someone. “Nala treat, please.”
You have blue eyes (with a green tint) and dirty blonde hair, and you look nothing like mommy, daddy, or your brother. I know you were never out of my sight for even a second while we were in the hospital for your birth. Otherwise, I might wonder if you were switched at birth. But you resemble other distant family members (such as your great grandpa and great aunt) with blue eyes and blonde hair, so however recessive. You were able to pick up those genes, which is incredible!
You are a big boy, 90th percentile for both height and weight! (For reference, KJ at 18 months.) This, combined with your “advanced” speech and fearless attitude, often makes strangers assume you are much older than you are. We’ve had so many people start to ask you questions like “how old are you?” and “what is your name?” we’ve begun to practice the questions at home. Mostly I say, “how old are you?” and then “say I’m one,” but you say “two” because, in your world, that’s what comes after one. Probably from me counting one, two, three at your brother so many times a day.
Speaking of your brother, there is no one else in the world you love more. You want to be everywhere he is and do what he is doing, even if you don’t always understand what he is doing. And while your personalities and looks are quite different, I know, for now, you want to be where he is. Even if sometimes you get a little jealous of his attention from Mommy. You may be the youngest child to flat-out tell on your brother, which Mommy has to watch out for because you are quite the instigator yourself sometimes. But I know you love when he gives you attention or teaches you things.
Watching your relationship with your brother unfold often makes me think that he was born to be a big brother, and you were born to be a little brother. He was born to teach, organize, and control. You were born to go with the flow and happily learn from him. I’m interested to see what you will be like in a big brother role, but that’s not for a few more months. I honestly don’t know what to expect. Mommy is an only child, so for the most part, she has zero expectations of sibling dynamics other than prayer every day that you will grow up to be friends.
You are an extremely outgoing kid. You love to say hi and bye to strangers and wave to them. You are often the center of the action and attention at gatherings with friends and family. You are HIGHLY animated in the most adorable way. Repeatedly enthusiastically shouting “YA!” or “ALRIGHT!” or “WHOA.”
I often get comments about “how developed you are” or how you are “all boy.” To sum it up, you are the life of the party…. until, like every toddler, you hit the tiredness or hungry limit. Then, it’s all bets off. Although, your tolerance for sleep loss seems to be pretty high compared to many other kids. You are more likely to lie down and fall asleep than have a complete meltdown. And as far as food goes, you never seem to have a problem finding or mooching food off of someone.
