Happy Monday Friends! How was your weekend?!? Mine was full full full full and hot hot hot hot. We did a ton of packing and some swimming.
Every day I tell myself I’m not going into the heat after 11 am, and every day I find myself going somewhere in the afternoon cursing myself and the heat.
When will I learn?!?! One thing is for sure, and I live off of frozen yogurt and smoothies for as many meals a possible when it’s over 100 degrees.
When it’s that hot, the LAST thing I want to do is heat up the house or my body by eating hot foods. (Don’t forget you can get your cold foods meal plan until the end of the month!) So basically, in the summer I go through protein powder like it’s my job and primary food source.
That’s why I was cautiously excited when Millennium Blend reached out to see if I’d like to try one of their protein powders. I get about 100 requests for protein powder reviews per week (okay not that much but still) and turn down most of them due to gross or unclarified ingredients. After checking out their website to see they are super upfront with all their labeling, I decided to give them a try.
I know nothing about wine, but I feel similar to a wine connoisseur when I get to try a new protein powder. I inspect the packaging for ingredients I can understand and bonus items that raise my excitement like probiotics, enzymes, and vitamins.
Next, I open the container and shake to the container in giddy anticipation of finding the scooper. Next, I smell it…. haha JUST KIDDING, I’m not nuts. I’m just looking for something with a recognizable ingredient list, a healthy dose of protein, and a sweet vanilla taste – no chocolate for me and no aftertaste.
Since I don’t really like hot food during the summer and salad isn’t my favorite, I can sometimes struggle to get in enough vegetables during the summer. Wait, do limes count as vegetables?
Kind of like how we pretend tomatoes and cucumbers are vegetables, but they are really fruit? I have plenty of limes in my poolside margaritas. No? Okay then, well you probably already know all about green smoothies, but don’t just let spinach steal the smoothie show.
The sweetness of carrots pairs perfectly with the tropical fruit for the best and most refreshing smoothie ever in this recipe. Plus, the Millennium Recovery Protein Powder adds a dose of protein and a creamy sweet vanilla taste that seals the deal.
I’m telling you, there is nothing better than this smoothie after a hotter than heck morning run or workout. I look forward to it the entire time I’m working out. I’m also simultaneously cursing Arizona and thanking God there isn’t Florida humidity to go along with 120-degree weather.
Anyways, this smoothie would also be good to replace a meal with, but if I did that, I’d use coconut milk for the healthy fat instead of almond milk so I would stay fuller longer. The nice thing about the Millenium Recovery Protein Blend is that its formula makes it a great addition to a smoothie, but also provides enough protein and carb post workout to promote good recovery on its own.
I also love that it’s got a healthy dose of probiotics in it because Lord knows I’m not the best at taking my probiotics. Personally, I do fine with all kinds of protein powders. However, some of my clients feel better using a protein powder with proteolytic enzymes in them to help digest the concentrated protein (this could be regardless of the type of protein powder.)
So, I thought it was nice it had that addition. I LOVE that it has flax seed powder in it already too, one less thing to drag out of the cabinet when I’m making a smoothie, who wants to drag out a million smoothie boosters? I definitely plan to use this protein powder as part of seed cycling.
