Back to school means back to a hectic calendar. Even though KJ is only in Pre-K, I still feel the back-to-school hustle. Probably because I also teach at the local community college, so as they ramp up school, so do I. And since I went dairy-free… yet again due to nursing another dairy-free baby, I’ve relied on Hungyroot as my secret weapon to get healthy and delicious dinners on the table FAST.
You can read my full Hungryroot review here, but today, I wanted to pop in and share one of our orders last week! To be transparent, they did give me a credit on my account in exchange for a little extra sharing their way. But, if you’ve been around HH any length of time, you know that I’ve been a Hungyroot subscriber for over three years and pay for all my boxes out of pocket.
I often share our recent boxes on IG and on Friday Favorites. We usually get about 1-2 boxes a month. Typically, when we have a hectic week ahead or weekend or if I need a break from the grind of meal planning, shopping, and cooking. Or if we’ve been traveling. And yes, even though Hungryroot is still a meal kit, you must cook. The recipes are so easy and require so little ingredients. I think of it as a break from cooking. It’s almost as easy as picking up a rotisserie chicken for dinner, haha.
Look at how simple the instruction list is!
In my full review, I discuss some pros and cons of ordering Hungryroot. However, the overall gist of it is I know HR is not for everyone. HR is for people who don’t mind minimalist meals with big flavors, low ingredients, and low time investments. It isn’t for people who love to cook elaborate meals. Although I love cooking, I don’t enjoy the weeknight grind with tantruming children and crying babies. That’s not cooking. That’s just survival. And to me, HR is my secret recipe to weeknight dinner survival, at least a couple of times a month.
I wanted to share a few of our recent/favorite meals! Especially those that are dairy-free!
Meal 1 – Carnitas Tacos
I order this exact meal at least one time a month. Mr. Hungry and I LOVE the delicious bean mixture, the meat, and the guac. I often order a salad pack in the grocery section with this meal!
Meal 2 – Cheezy Chicken Sausage and Shells
I freaking LOVE this dairy-free cheese sauce. I never thought I would like a dairy-free cheese sauce, but OMG, I would eat this even if I didn’t have to be dairy-free. I love that they have Banza, as we exclusively eat Banza in our home! Protein pasta for the win! I added sun-dried tomatoes to the final meal, too. Another thing I love is that with Hungyroot meals, you can easily modify or add your own stuff at home.
Meal 3 – Taverna Style Beef Tips & Smashed Potatoes
Another meal we love to pair with a salad back is the taverna-style beef tip with a delicious tzatziki sauce. One of Mr. Hungry’s favorite meals!
Other favorites for us include:
- Shawarma Chicken and Green Bean Farro Bowl
- Smoky Hamburger and Caramelized Onions
- Korean BBQ Chicken and Broccoli Stir Fry
- Whole Grain Chicken Caesar Wraps
- Green Chili Chicken Enchiladas
- Anything with Chimichurri sauce
What’s your favorite Meal Kit? Have you tried Hungyroot?
