This healthy chocolate mug cake is the perfect healthy dessert for chocolate lovers who want a single serving cake in 90 seconds!
Hi, friends, I’m not. I’m checking in a little later today. I had this post done, and then it got deleted, so that’s fun, but that’s life, right? And at times like these, I could use a little sweet treat pick me up, so at least I’m blogging about dessert today!
You guys know that I love my healthy peanut butter mug cake and my chocolate peanut butter protein mug cake, but sometimes I want dessert without protein powder. Protein powder has such a distinct taste, ya know? Sometimes I’m just not into it for dessert.
This recipe took about a billion tries to perfect. Luckily I had lots of help eating the rejects. The thing is I don’t subscribe to any particular diet, no low fat, no low carb life over here. So the only thing I wanted this cake to be was made with clean ingredients and taste like actual real rich chocolate cake. So, it took a lot of well worth it tries.
I definitely nailed it, so I’m excited to share with you how to make it today! Just make sure you top it with some sort of frosting or melted chocolate chips because, as a reader told me once back in the day, a cupcake without frosting is just a muffin. So add those toppings, friends!
How to Make Healthy Chocolate Mug Cake
One of the reasons it took me so many tries to come up with the right recipe is because I tried so hard to avoid using just part of an egg because that’s just annoying. But, the best result was definitely with the egg white, no matter which way I tried it. So, you’ll separate your egg (or use 3T liquid egg whites) and whisk the egg white until just frothy.
You don’t have to throw away your yolk! You can throw it in your scrambled eggs for some extra healthy fat and protein!
After that, this recipe is super easy. Mix all the ingredients up and then microwave for 90 seconds, easy peasy!
I’m sharing my video for my chocolate peanut butter protein mug cake in the recipe card below, so that you can see the consistency before microwaving (it’s the same) until I have time to make a video for this specific recipe!

Looks great! I’d like to try this. I don’t have almond flour in the house. Would I be able to substitute all purpose flour?
Kelli Shallal MPH RD says
Hi Connie! AP flour is not a 1:1 direct substitute with AF. AP flour is all carbohydrates and AF is protein and fat. I don’t think that substitution will work, sorry!

Thanks for getting back to me, Kelli! I’ll have to find room in my cabinet then for some almond flour. lol
