Banana Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins are made in just one bowl, packed with juicy, bursting blueberries and the hearty flavor of banana bread!
I made two batches of these muffins last week and froze the second batch for an “emergency.” There is something so comforting about the classic flavors of muffins like blueberry and banana. These muffins are the perfect blend of both. I typically offer the kids these muffins for breakfast with Greek yogurt or hard-boiled eggs. I, on the other hand, honestly love muffins for a pre or post-workout snack. They sit well during a workout if I’m hungry or are great paired with a protein shake post-workout.
I’ve made several versions of oatmeal muffins over the years, including healthy blueberry muffins with oatmeal, banana oatmeal muffins, chocolate chip banana oatmeal muffins, pumpkin banana oatmeal muffins, and now these! I also have a gluten-free banana oatmeal muffin recipe you can add blueberries to if needed! As always, let me know if you try them!
How to Make Banana Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins
*This is a visual how-to section with a full recipe card at the bottom.
To make these blueberry banana oatmeal muffins, you’ll start by mashing some bananas, of course! Then add in your wet ingredients like maple syrup, eggs, and milk, and combine. Next, mix in your oats and let them sit for 5-10 minutes. This ensures you don’t get hard pieces of oats in your muffins! Then, add your dry ingredients until they are well combined. Then fold in your blueberries. I used wild blueberries because they are smaller and spread more evenly through the oven but you can use fresh or frozen any type of blueberries!
Swaps And Substitutions
This recipe is dairy-free and vegetarian.
- Bananas – do not omit, but remember, the riper the banana, the sweeter. There isn’t a ton of additional sweetener in this recipe, so you may want to add more ripe bananas.
- Eggs – you may use flax eggs or egg substitutes, but I haven’t tried it! It should work, but again, I haven’t tried it.
- Almond Milk – use any milk you’d like! You can also use water in a pinch.
- Maple Syrup – use any liquid sweetener.
- Oats – do not omit them, or they won’t be oatmeal muffins!
- Whole Wheat Flour – I love whole wheat pastry flour; you can also use all-purpose flour or gluten-free 1:1. If you want to use almond flour, try these muffins instead.
- Cinnamon – optional, but adds flavor.
- Baking Powder – do not omit
- Blueberries – I used wild blueberries because they are smaller so you get more blueberry flavor in every bite, but any type of blueberries will do!
