Happy Friday Friends TGIF!!!!!
It’s been a long week over here, any week I can’t work out drags on and on and on and on, I busy myself but the clock moves at molasses pace. First thing, thank you everyone for your kind words yesterday on the coffee date post. I’m going to try and make wine/coffee date posts a monthly thing to keep you in the loop!

I found the pea protein to have a nice taste and to be much smoother than most vegan protein powders I’ve tried, like the whey there wasn’t really much of a taste at all.

L: This smoothie I posted on IG which I made with the whey that I ordered from Naked Nutrition, after finishing their sample back I knew I had to order some! I liked the goat protein the best (because I liked the goaty taste) but the whey protein literally had no taste so I feel like it will be more versatile.
S: LTF tortilla with carrot shreds and hummus
D: Beef Stir Fry (Based off of Practical Paleo)
S: Yogurt and Trail Mix (ultimate salted from Sprouts and I added Lilly’s Dark Chocolate stevia sweetened chips to it) You guys know I like full fat dairy products, I especially like the creaminess of 2% but I got 0% this week since I knew I’d be loading it up with trail mix.
Tuesday (2/16)
BF: 3/4 cup egg whites + 1/2 mashed banana which I added to a waining sun butter jar

Thoughts
I was eating a lot when I went back to crossfit, lifting makes me so hungry, then this week pretty much zero on the workout front so not so hungry still trying to keep up my intake to help with injury recovery.
Of course this isn’t a record of EVERYTHING, I’m a notorious snacker especially on frozen fruit —> I <3 frozen fruit A LOT, peanut butter, and clementine’s off our tree
I also drank an iced coffee with Fairlife 2% milk and vanilla stevia drops almost every day
The good: I got a lot of variety in with a decent amount of veggies, protein, and healthy fat
The “bad”: sometimes I think I inadvertently go to low in carbs, not intentionally I just really focus on protein and healthy fat, making me a cranky butt and crave PB &J at night.
Naked Nutrition Review & Giveaway
When Melissa from Naked Nutrition reached out to me to ask if I’d like to sample their protein I was really excited. I had no idea protein powder without fillers, flavors, or preservatives even existed! Of course I was nervous about two things 1) it wouldn’t taste good 2) it wouldn’t blend nicely. Here were my thoughts about the protein:
Whey- I found that the whey protein mixed the best, but I couldn’t get it to mix by hand in a shaker bottle. 30 seconds in the blender and it was fully mixed and I noticed it took on the taste of the vanilla almond milk really nicely. It was basically tasteless which pleasantly surprised me, so I ended up getting chocolate milk to mix the other ones with (I like chocolate protein shakes.)
Goat- This was my favorite one by a long shot, I loved the goaty taste, it wasn’t overpowering it was just a hint.
Pea Protein- Very smooth for a vegan protein powder, blended just as nicely with no after taste.
Brown Rice- This is the only type of protein powder Mr. Hungry can have and I can’t stand brown rice protein so I let him be the verdict. He said it was very smooth and liked that it didn’t have a “fake” or “chemical” after taste like other brown rice proteins.
Casein- Best taken at night after a hard workout day, I haven’t had a chance to try it yet.
Verdict?
In my experience the powders did not completely combine with milk or water when using a shaker bottle. I shook as hard as I could and counted to 30 but couldn’t get them to mix in almond milk. This isn’t a big deal for me because I don’t like to travel with my protein shakes anyway. A quick spin in a blender (or I’m sure an immersion blender would be fine too) and they were good to go. Next week I’m going to share a recipe for how I make Mr. Hungry 4 protein shakes ahead of time and they last all week. So they keep well after they are blended and a quick shake means they are good to go. I like my smoothies (not protein shakes, actual smoothies) to be a little thicker so I added chia seeds and/or xantham gum to my smoothies and go the thick pudding like texture I wanted with no problem! I ended up ordering a 5lb container of brown rice protein and a 5lb container of whey protein (I did like the goat the best but the whey is definitely more versatile), so I’d say we were pretty big fans!
Giveaway Time! Naked Nutrition is offering a sample pack like the one I received to one awesome Hungry Hobby reader! You can also use code WHEY2016 to get 10% off all orders!
Note: I received the sample pack from Naked Nutrition but was not compensated to write this post, as always all opinions are my own.
