Two- Ingredient Protein Pudding is so delicious, and there is no Greek yogurt! Get 20 grams of protein in your dessert!
When I first saw this on social, I knew I had to try it for Mr. Hungry. He LOVES pudding, haha, like loves loves loves it. And it’s so genius: replace the milk with a protein shake when making instant pudding, and viola!
I’ve seen this so many times I don’t know who the original creator is. However, I typically see it with sugar-free jello and muscle milk. I thought we could do a little better than that, so I decided to try this with a cleaner instant pudding mix, and the Orgain shakes we get from Costco. Since I used regular full-sugar pudding mix, it isn’t as low calorie or low sugar as other versions. But I definitely think it is still low-calorie enough that it could fit into most calorie deficits/weight loss plans. There we’re some definite differences in taste between the vegan protein and the whey protein shakes. Read on to find out, or watch the video below.
Don’t worry. Mr. Hungry was super sick and loves the camera, so he’s super engaged in the video below (not, insert crying laughing emojis)
How to Make Protein Pudding
Mix your protein shake with your instant pudding. Divide it into 4-5 individual containers and let it set. That’s it. I know.
Ingredient Swaps and Substitutions
We used instant pudding mix from Amazon. The 365 brand had relatively clean ingredients and wasn’t too badly priced!
You can use pre-made shakes like we did, or you can make a protein shake with milk or plant-based milk or water and use that as your liquid! I’ve seen a fair amount of people on reels do Fairlife milk plus protein powder or just Fairlife on its own.
Vegan vs. Whey Protein
We buy Orgain protein shakes from Costco. Get my full Costco shopping list here. I happen to have both the plant-based and whey shakes on hand, so I tried both.
Vegan shake – the texture of this one was much more creamy and dense pudding-like than the whey-based one. But it had a plant-based aftertaste.
Whey shake – this one was more airy and fluffy, but we liked the taste better.
The winner? See the video above!
How to Store and Freeze
To store: Store in the refrigerator for up to a week.
To freeze: Freeze in freezer bags for up to 3 months, defrost in the refrigerator overnight.
