Hi, friends! As I’m typing this, I paid the $8 for the wifi and am praying it doesn’t cut out. I’m saving, every, save, other, save, word.
So, as you guys know we spent Memorial Day with my in-laws, then I took an extended vacay and stayed with them all week. Then, on Friday, my in-laws (my MIL and SIL) were kind enough to drive me up to San Francisco. It was about a two-hour drive with traffic, so it was ULTRA sweet of them to drive all that way! This was a VERY special occasion. You may remember my friend Kelsey from country thunder or the story behind my tattoo SHE IS ENGAGED! I couldn’t be more happy for her and I planned this trip right after I found out so I could meet her fiance, Myles.
How cute are their engagement photos?????
Friday night I got lots of one on one time with the happy couple but didn’t take ANY pictures! It was all about catching up and getting to know him. I do want to mention a few of the places we went that night because if you are visiting SF, I would highly recommend checking them out!
Brixton – cool local spot for apps and drinks.
Next up an unbelievable very foodie dinner experience at Mr. Pollo. It’s a four-course meal that changes every weekend. There are only five tables and the reservations are timed so you need to book this one in advance. If you go in the summer, I would suggest reserving a later time because we did get kind of hot by the window. Anyways, it was super fun because you don’t know what the menu is ahead of time. Probably not for those with dietary restrictions though.
Saturday Feastly Brunch
Saturday morning we did the hangover breakfast thing and then hung out at her apartment for a little while before heading out to meet some of her other bridesmaids for brunch. For Feastly, the venue constantly changes. Our food was a seven-course meal inspired by traditional meals of Istanbul. You may have caught some of my IG live of the chef talking about the inspiration for the food. Here is a description they very kindly sent me:
‘The legacy of Istanbul, once Constantinople, the capital of four empires, is greater than meets the eye. It’s the Bosphorus, Black Sea, the Aegean, and the Mediterranean; Mesopotamia, Balkans, Anatolia, Caucasus, North Africa, and Persia. It’s the palace and the countryside, the business capital and the cultural capital. It’s a little Turkish, a little Greek, Armenian, Jewish, Arabic and Persian. It’s Istanbul Modern. We tell the story.’
Can’t forget about dessert!
Wine + Memories
If you are ever in SF I highly recommend booking a Feastly experience; I definitely would do it again if I ever go back.

Sunday Union Street Fair
In the summer in SF, each neighborhood takes turns hosting a fair on the weekend. I just happened to be there when Kelsey’s neighborhood was hosting this weekend’s fair. So on Sunday we got up and headed down with the famous @bourbon_urban_doodle to check it out. OMG you guys, this dog is so cute I can’t even handle it!
It was actually kind of funny because we spent a good deal of time bonding over how terrible having a puppy is. Bourbon is 11 months old, so he is just coming out of his puppy phase but definitely still has his moments. It reminded me of how crazy it was when we got Nala. I was working at the gym 70 hours a week, and so a lot of the responsibility fell on Mr. Hungry. This is a public service announcement brought to you by Hungry Hobby. This is what I wish someone had said to me when I said I wanted a puppy: If you are thinking about getting a puppy, don’t do it or at least think twice. Think about how terrible it will be when you are waking up at all hours of the night. When there are bathroom stains everywhere. When you literally can’t take your eyes off them for even a second to put your makeup on, take a shower, or do anything. You will have to come home earlier than you want. You will have to pay for unknown vet bills, and you will have to pay for someone to take care of them when you want to go out of town. Puppies are cute, but MANY of my friends have said a puppy is WAY harder to take care of than a baby, so just think about that one…. If you are getting the puppy with a significant other. Be prepared for a HUGE strain on your relationship. I have yet to have one friend with a dog who didn’t share our experience of pure hell the first eight weeks our puppy was in in our home. Be ready for all of that.
Sorry for that little announcement, now, back to the fair, which included free tacos!
Then we caught an epic lunch at a restaurant on Union Street called Palm House. I was really blessed the weather was gorgeous while I was there so we sat outside and enjoyed our last day together!
The rest of the day was filled with naps and hanging out, and of course, as I’m typing this I’m flying home. It’s been so long since I’ve been home I’m ready to see Mr. Hungry and my demon devil dog that I love so much that I would never give up (I know I’m sending you mixed messages.) I’m excited to go home to some groceries which I ordered off of Instacart so that I’m not going home to bare cabinets, a little jumpstart makes all the difference!
I hope you guys has a great weekend!

I said you should get a dog not a puppy!
Emily @ Pizza & Pull-ups says
Oh my gosh, all that food looks amazing! So jealous of your eats. Puppies can be a real pain, the hubs and I have decided when we are ready for another dog we will go with one that is a year or two old.

Looks like a fun weekend and OMG that brunch! Sounds delicious. And yes I totally feel you about getting a puppy. We’ve had ours for almost six years and I love her so much, but she definitely put a strain on our relationship. And with not living close to any family, if we ever want to go out of town for the weekend we need to have a friend come over and watch her which is always a pain to find. But the excitement I get everyday when I come home from work is all worth it!
Kelli Shallal MPH RD says
SO WORTH IT, now that she is two years old and not a total brat ha ha
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
Talk about one hell of a weekend, and congrats to your friend! That brunch… just… WHOA.
