Hello friends! Happy FriYAY!
What do you have planned this weekend? We have a fun weekend planned! Tonight my in-laws are watching the kids so we can go furniture shopping and out to dinner. (I learned last weekend when I bought and returned two different dining room tables that I can’t shop for furniture with kids around. Yes, bought and returned twice at Ashley Furniture and can not show my face in that store ever again. moooooovvvving along…..) Saturday, our church is hosting an Oktoberfest with a full-on beer tasting. I can’t wait. I LOVE beer tasting (& wine tasting & tequila tasting…. anywho.)
And then, of course, Sunday is Halloween! I got a Spiderman costume for KJ (thank you, Costco) and a baby shark outfit for Kaiden. We’re planning on taking them tricker treating to the neighbors we know and have seen the kids grown up, so like four houses, haha. We will also be attending our church’s COVID memorial mass and fall festival that afternoon. So, it’s going to be a busy weekend, and after weeks, actually months of writing that we had zero plans but stay in the house isolated from the world while I was pregnant and had a newborn, I’m here for all the activities, socialization and fun. (Note we still follow CDC guidelines, and Mr. Hungry and I are vaccinated.)

Favorites and Food
The Farm at South Mountain
My mom and I took the kids to the Farm at South Mountain on Monday afternoon. I always forget how lovely the atmosphere is and how delicious the sandwiches are! The weather was perfect for a little picnic! Whenever I go there with my Mom, I always make a mental note that this would be the BEST place to meet up with other family friends. Lots of open space for kids to run around while adults talk and eat. They also sell beer and wine, so you could enjoy a drink as well. (I find drinking to be more trouble than it’s worth most of the time while still nursing exclusively.)
The only negative was the pecan trees had a LOT of bees in them, BUT that wouldn’t deter me from going again (unless I was allergic) because the bees were content staying up in the trees. I only noticed them because I was lying on the blanket with baby KK and happened to see them looking up. Otherwise, I would have never known they were there. I thought it was bizarre, though, because the pecan trees are not flowering, so I’m not sure why there were so many up there!
Wilde Chips
I’ve mentioned these chips before because KJ loves them. They actually took a little while to grow on me because they have a meaty pork rind type flavor to them. But the chili lime Verde pork is hands down my new favorite flavor. I almost ate the whole bag in one sitting! So freaking good, and 10 grams of protein per serving!
Phoenix Zoo
We took KJ to the Phoenix Zoo for his birthday, and he, of course, LOVED it! We reinstated our membership (which lapsed after COVID) and got two free zoo lights tickets! (I LOVE zoo lights.) He kept saying “I could pet them” to every animal, bird, or moving thing he saw. So, needless to say, I think his favorite part was the camel ride and the petting zoo where he could actually touch the animals. Either way, happy to have our zoo membership back rolling! KJ loved the zoo too, he slept 70% of the time in the stroller, and the rest of the time hung out in the Ergo 360, so I’d say that was a win!
Fitness
I worked out this week but apparently didn’t document any proof. My workouts have been inconsistent, and in many cases, I’ve had to cut down an Expecting and Empowered workout because I just couldn’t fit 45 minutes in. That being said, I still got in 4 workouts plus some walks. I miss the days when I had time to walk Nala every single morning AND fit in a workout (definitely made postpartum weight loss a bit easier), but these days, it’s usually one or the other. When it was just KJ, I’d rush to get out of the house and get a walk-in before childcare arrived, then I’d work out during KJ’s nap.
Well, fast forward to another baby, and it’s almost impossible to get out of the house in time to walk Nala before childcare arrives, and KJ doesn’t nap. While I still work from home, between nursing the baby and meetings, and KJs needs, it’s hard to stop and get that workout in. As I said, 30 minutes is usually the max. That being said, I’m still loving the Expecting and Empowered guides. I’m on week 22/23 and the run your “first” 5K program on Aaptiv. I’m on week 3!
