Dear Baby KK,
Another update with two months combined instead of separate updates for each. Please know, baby, that even though you came second into this family, every milestone, every smile, every part of you is cherished and remembered, even if it’s not always recorded.
Your nine-month well check was closer to 10 months. You were 85th percentile for height (29.5 inches), 40th percentile for weight (20lbs 10 ounces), and 85th percentile for head circumference.
For reference your brother at 9 and 10 months in this post!
While month eight was filled with lots of army crawling and exploring, it seems like you’ve become a different baby in the last month. This morning I went to get you from your crib, and you were sitting up waiting for me. When I saw you sitting there, I was both excited you conquered a new skill and a little teary because, with every new skill, we say goodbye to infancy and hello to toddler life right around the bend. You started rocking on all fours and crawling a bit before dropping to your tummy and reverting to army crawling. You pulled to stand and scaled your brother’s kid chair in the living room. I think you will be a climber, which scares me a little because your brother never climbed anything!
You started clapping, and it’s so darn cute! It felt like a huge milestone to have you interact with us intentionally, your first step toward communicating! But, my favorite thing you do (and have done for the last few months) is wrap your arms around my neck and give me a big tight hug whenever I hold you. I pray you never stop hugging Mama that way, even when your 40!
You are a happy baby. Don’t get me wrong, when you are tired or hungry, you let it be known, but overall your demeanor is still happy and easy-going. You have a high tolerance for the aggressive love shown to you by your big brother, and even your first round of teething wasn’t too bad (they came in around 8.5 months)! You don’t love being confined to the walker, bouncer, or playpen. You like to explore and find new things to get into. You love to observe your brother and get into his things, especially when he is gone at preschool and can’t stop you.
Overall you are a good eater! You’ll eat most things I put in front of you, and you don’t shove a bunch of food in your mouth at once as your brother did. We are almost off purees except for the occasional pouch. You mostly eat what we eat. I don’t worry so much about what I used to worry about when feeding your brother. I was super concerned with sugar, salt, and all his food sensitivities with your brother. With you, we avoid dairy, and that’s about it. If we are eating it, for the most part, so are you with little modification as long as it’s developmentally appropriate (aka not a choking hazard.) This makes mealtimes much less stressful for Mama!
We’re still nursing a lot throughout the day, at least six times. At wake up, before naps, after naps, and before bed. We will likely work on dropping the after nap nursing sessions soon, whenever you are ready! I don’t have a specific goal or cut-off for nursing you. I’m just enjoying and appreciating the relatively easy nursing journey we’ve had.
Some of your current favorites are banana pancakes, bananas, blueberries, pears, avocado toast, chicken, steak, shrimp patties, and more! You don’t LOVE veggies, but I keep exposing them to you. I finally got you to eat broccoli when it was covered in a sauce.
We dropped your night nursing session right around nine months, so now you are sleeping through the night! You still get a bit of formula after we nurse, just before bed. During the day, we are following the two nap schedule, with the usual nap time being 9 to 11 am and 2-3 pm, although that can vary significantly! We like a flexible routine around here!
We are rounding the bend to toddlerhood, so Mommy is soaking up every last second of your babyhood as possible. What they say is right. It goes by fast. It goes by even faster with such a sweet happy baby like you, KK!

The 9-10 month mark is an exciting time in a baby’s development. At this age, babies are becoming more mobile and are starting to explore the world around them in new ways. They may be crawling or even starting to pull themselves up to stand, which opens up a whole new world of possibilities for play and exploration.
