hey hey
So I talked about this over snap chat the other day (follow hungryhobbyrd to see Kelli unfiltered). I should probably take the RD off of my username in snapchat because really that one is just about me. Not about my business, it’s where you find me totally unfiltered. Okay, sometimes I use snapchat filters.
So, you know what saying I decided I REALLY like?
You. Do. You.
Every time I hear that saying I think to myself “heck yes, I will do me (translate be me) exactly how I want.” Fun fact, I was heavily bullied in elementary school. It sucked, and so I learned how to be whatever I needed to be to get around that. The problem? I’m so so so over it.
Maybe it’s because I’m approaching 30 (in two birthdays) or maybe it’s because I lost the ability to direct any energy toward caring. It is so draining to try and be something or someone that your not. Even if you are good at pretending, it’s taxing and I quit.
My energy is better spent in a million other things than trying to conform. Well, actually I quit trying to conform a while ago and it was the best decision of my life. So, whenever I hear that saying. You. Do. You. some kind of crazy fire lights up inside me and I want to go lift a car over my head or something. (Wouldn’t that be awesome?)
I feel like we get caught up in so many rules about the way we should act, what we should say, how to dress, how to write, how to breathe (this sounds sarcastic but it isn’t, I’m not kidding you my chiropractor retrained me to breathe from my belly instead of diaphragm), and don’t even get me started on food rules.
It feels really hard to do and say what you want without someone disapproving. I think that’s the point, if you want to be yourself, you have to be willing to accept rejection. Not everyone is going to like you, but they should accept and respect you.
That’s why the you do you saying is so cool. It’s usually used in reference to someone walking to the beat of their own drum. We are saying hey that’s cool, keep rocking it out my friend. I. freaking. love. it.
How does this relate to hummus? Eh, doesn’t really. Except for the fact that I decided I was too lazy to go get tahini from the store to make this hummus. Besides, I don’t really like tahini that much and it’s expensive.
I’ve thrown one too many jars of unused tahini away to want to continue purchasing it. This recipe is based off one of the creamy hummus yogurt dip recipe I published way back when I first started this blog (the pictures are horrific, please only click at your own risk.) It isn’t very different but I make it like this almost weekly so I figured it deserved a refresh. Make it, either way, however, YOU want it. You. Do. You.
