Child care.
It took me two months to find a sitter I jived with and could trust, and a few weeks to get her adjusted and now she is unexpectedly moving back home to Wisconsin. And the backup broke her hip, so now I’m back to square one. Which means I’m on the hunt again. I never in my life thought it would be this hard to line up child care. I mean I babysat, I never thought twice about difficulties finding a sitter. Now I know why the parents were always uber nice to me – I was the cream of the crop with a lifeguard certification, coaching experience, and plenty of experience babysitting and nannying references. No wonder I never had trouble finding babysitting jobs.
Uggggggghhhhhhhhh. SOS.

When all else fails because the summer goes on too long and you are bored, shaving cream and a shark wand save the day.
It’s harmless, right?
Speaking of boredom and our attempt to alleviate it, KJ has done MUCH better at preschool this week. I mentioned it on IG but KJ was the cryer of his little preschool class, so much so that they actually called me to go back down there one day because he wasn’t calming down. He did eventually calm down and I did not have to intervene, but each day at drop-off was bad until one day he just said BA BYE MAMA!
We just got word that the teacher’s assistant he really loved won’t be continuing on because of COVID concerns so I hope that doesn’t throw him off too much.
Food
Next week I’m thinking I’ll do a week of dinners and take a quick nonfancy iPhone photo of what we really eat! This week we had paleo beef and broccoli using ButcherBox steak tips! (You may have noticed that’s one of my go-tos off my top 10 dinner recipes we make all the time post!)
Word of Mouth Grill
The first time we tried this restaurant we were less than impressed, however, a couple of years later we tried it again and we LOVED it. We’ve picked up a few times since then and loved it every time. I’m not sure what happened that first night we got it, but I’m so glad we decided to give this barbecue joint another shot!
Waffles
KJ rediscovered waffles when his older cousin was here visiting! Now we’ve been making waffles on repeat and on Tuesday we made four batches of cinnamon flax oat flour waffles to freeze so we’re stocked up!
It reminded me I need to get back in the habit of prepping KJ some food too. I honestly haven’t been doing that much prep since the baby was born. For me, I drink Smoothie Box smoothies, eat Daily Harvest bowls, or make a quick wrap with lunchmeat, avocado, primal kitchen buffalo sauce, and angelic kitchen wraps. I just started thinking about Mr. Hungry’s lunches again. Baby steps.
Fitness
Been doing some longer runs which felt terrible and great at the same time. I’m still finishing the walk-to-run program on Aaptiv for one more week. Last week’s fitness included week 14/15 postpartum workouts from the Expecting and Empowered Post Partum Guide, it looked like this:
- Saturday – OFF
- Sunday – Run
- Monday – Lower Body Workout and a 30-minute walk
- Tuesday – Upper Body Workout
- Wednesday – 30-minute walk
- Thursday – 3 Mile Run/Walk and a 30-minute walk
- Friday – Full Body Workout

Ugh about the sitter woes! I hope you find a great new person soon, and that KJ keeps doing well at preschool. And way to go on starting kids on waffles young. Frozen leftover waffles were one of my favorite snacks growing up!
