Happy Friday! My hope is that most of the world is enjoying a fun night out or relaxing night in on this Friday. For me, I’m doing a working weekend so that’s why I’m posting. (Blogging is weirdly like a mini break.)
Recap time!
Usually I don’t eat breakfast before I workout, I eat a snack before bed instead. This morning I changed things up and had a greek yogurt since I had 8 miles scheduled.
Definitely not my favorite greek yogurt, but let me be honest, I got four of them in a pack for one dollar at the 99 cent store! (See my post on healthy finds at the dollar store here.)
I decided to tackle the run by doing two four mile loops. I run four miles pretty frequently now so I figured I trick myself mentally by saying “I’m just doing my normal four miles, twice.) That strategy did work very well, the first four miles went by pretty smoothly.
1mi- 11:26 –> I always warm up slow (usually even slower ha ha)
2mi- 10:17
3mi- 10:25
4mi- 10:42 —> hip pain begins
So I have REALLY really weak hips, I always have. Since I was a kid I’ve been able to sort of dislocate them out of the socket (gross I know.) This unfortunately did not work to my advantage in cheer or dance. It kind of made it painful to do any sort of split position because my hip would threaten to rotate on me. So, they get really sore with any type of uphill work or strength training. Last week on my long run I was sore from hiking but it was just soreness and I was able to run fine. I had totally recovered from that when I decided to do some abductor strength training at the gym, BAD MOVE. I finally showed this to my chiropractor (the weird popping out of place) and discussed the soreness with him. This is when he advised me against any type of pylometrics, said to ice, and started me on a plan for strengthening my hips (leg lifts and donkey kicks daily) once the soreness goes down. I should have waited one more day to do my long run, but I have schedule and I like to stick to them so I didn’t wait. So the next four miles were pretty terrible. I stopped a bunch to stretch and eventually had to walk some.
5mi- 11:01
6mi- 10:22
7mi- 12:28
8mi- 11:41
I was definitely fighting with myself, run through it I would say. Then, “Don’t run through it this is pain not soreness, it hurts and you are going to make it worse.” So I would stop and walk a little then get irritated with myself so I would start running and the same conversation would repeat. It was remembering my friend Tveen’s hip overuse injury that happened while we were in grad school that finally made me stop and walk. I feel okay about the run and I will just prioritize icing, strengthening, and stretching my hips in the mean time.
After I got back I made a protein shake and made friends/enemies with the foam roller. I really should look up how to foam roll instead of winging it.
Then I was super naughty and instead of getting right to studying I got lost in what I call “blog land” for like three hours. Part of that time was spent coming up with my new logo:
The other part of that time was trying to figure out how to get the logo next to my name, clearly I was unsuccessful. It looks like my options are learn how to understand CSS code, pay someone to design my site, or change the theme. In between studying and wedding planning I don’t see the time or finances coming up for any of those options anytime soon. I know I need to be patient and I’ll have tons of time to develop my little spot here in blog world as soon as I don’t have so much on my plate, so I’ll be patient if you will be. 🙂 Anyways, there it is, you’ll see it up here someday!
I was awoken out of my blog land stupor by my growling tummy. Then it was “oh crap it’s 10am how did that happen????” I made a flourless pancake which I put too much egg white in so it turned into a little bit of a mushy mess. (Making eggs with stainless steel pan is doable, but tricky, today my game was off.)
Then I studied and took studying breaks with chores. Sounds fun huh? I KNOW YOU WANT TO BE ME RIGHT NOW! One more test, then you can start your life… that is what I keep telling myself!
