Hi Friends! Here we are on another Friday, but this week is special, it’s Good Friday! I’m wishing all of you that celebrate Easter a happy weekend filled with love, family, and reflection xoxo
On another note, how is March Maddness going for you? Well my team was out before it ever started, sadly my beloved wildcats aren’t there for an epic win this year. I’m disappointed, but at least I can still enjoy game day food like these cute little roll ups!
Turkey, Apple, & Goat Cheese Roll Ups
The good folks at True Story Foods sent me an awesome care package complete with uncured natural deli turkey and chicken meat, uncured natural chicken and beef sausages, as well as a really nice new grill set! I love deli meat, when I was working long shifts at the gym I’d often make an adult lunchable with natural deli meat and cheese. Back then, I used to exclusively buy my meat at Whole Foods from the Deli counter because that was the only place I found the meat to taste fresh (not slimy and packaged) and could also guarantee humane treatment of the animals. However, since Whole Foods is really out of the way I haven’t been buying lunch meat as much anymore.
When I opened these packages the first thing I noticed about the meat was that it was thick cut slices or chunks of real meat that didn’t taste like it came from a package! Even better? True Story foods can be found at Sprouts, a place I hit up just about every week! Hooray! The thick cuts slices made these roll ups work perfectly and they were absolutely delicious!
Ingredients:
- 6 slices oven roasted turkey breast(one package)
- 3 ounces goat cheese (I used the fig from Costco)
- 12 thin slices of apple (1/2 small apple)
- 6 pretzels (I used glutinos gluten free from Sprouts)
Directions:
Spread 1 tablespoon goat cheese over half of each slice and place apple slices in the middle. Roll turkey meat into one roll and stick the pretzel down the middle (I stuck mine right between the two apple slices.) and your done!
I think these would be great little appetizers for just about any party you had or any time you were watching “the game” whatever that might be! They also made great meal prep lunch options as well!
Natural Uncured Sausages & Hot Dogs
Now about these chicken sausages, holy cow! If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat (hungryhobbyrd for both) you saw Mr. Hungry grilling these bad boys up!
You guys, the flavor bursting in these things was out of this world! If you’ve been reading for a while you know my love for all things spicy especially the words sirracha and jalapeño, TOGETHER, I can’t even. I could have eaten the whole package, I didn’t, but I definitely could have. Mr. Hungry’s favorite was the Apple and Wildflower Honey Chicken Sausage, and we both really like the traditional uncured beef hot dogs.
Technically you don’t have to grill these bad boys up since they are already pre cooked, but to me there is nothing like the grill to welcome spring/summer and create an awesome vibe on the weekend. If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat (hungryhobbyrd) you already saw Mr. Hungry and I messing around grilling these and having a good time!
For the sausages I just whipped up a quick honey mustard sauce for dipping, which somehow managed to really jive with the flavors for all three sausages!
Smokey Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup honey
- ¼ cup mayonnaise (I used grapeseed mayo)
- ¼ cup yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
Just mix together and you ready to go!
We grilled three packs, one of each and ate them all week! Mr. Hungry ate them for dinner wrapped is beloved LTF sprouted corn tortillas and I ate them over salad with more goat cheese! It was delicious! We have a couple more packs left and I definitely see the uncured beef hot dogs making an appearance in these Gluten Free Mini Corn Dog Bites.
