TGIF! Welcome to Friday, day of freedom, day of friends, day of fine wine (who am I kidding, I drink two buck chuck from Trader Joes), day of fun!
Earlier this week I promised to share with you the treadmill workout I did last weekend, it was a good one!
The graphic makes me laugh because often I scribble treadmill workouts on notecards and head out the door. I guess that is what was on my mind because this graphic kind of reminds me of the notecards! If you are looking for more treadmill workouts you can always check out 23 boredom-busting treadmill workouts!
So, despite the Arizona heat, I was running 2-3 times a week until my birthday. My birthday run was so hot and miserable that I literally lost the will to run. Since then I’m lucky if I get in one treadmill run a week. Now that it is FINALLY starting to cool down I’m getting the urge to sign up for races. I’m also thanking my lucky stars I didn’t sign up for a race in morgan hill on October 23rd like I had planned.
As long as I can remember I’ve always loved the heat. I’ve always “ran cold” and hated being cold. When it would get hot in the summers I would tell myself “I’d rather be hot than cold” and that would get me through it. I just don’t do the heat anymore, I don’t run in the heat, I don’t walk in the heat, in sum, I don’t go outside except at 5am to walk the dog. As a kid, I LOVED the heat, but I also loved to be in the pool. This summer, something switched in me, it bothered me more than I ever imagined possible. I’m actually kind of bewildered by my new found disdain for Arizona summers. I keep thinking, “welp, this sucks, now what?” Luckily, it’s almost over (at least the 100+ days) so I don’t have to deal with it again till May!
Meanwhile, I’m easing back into running in prep for training in the most amazing and beautiful time of the year in Arizona, the fall! Races I’ve got my eye on:
- Peace Of the Pie 5K – October 2nd –> this one looks fun!
- Color Vibe 5K – October 22nd –> also a “fun run”
- Gilbert Half Marathon – November 19th
- Gilbert Turkey Trot – November 26th – in the past we’ve done the one in downtown Phoenix but that is SO far. I think this year we might try and stay a little closer to home.
- Tucson Half Marathon – December 10th
- I mean I would love to do the San Diego Holiday Half – Dember 18th, but that MIGHT a bit harder to pull off.
The race schedule in Arizona is kind of triathlon heavy in the fall and picks up a bit in the winter for running. I am not a triathlete, not going to happen. So I don’t know, I guess we will have to see!
Got any good races or fitness goals for this fall/winter? Let me know if you know of something good I don’t know about!

Love this! I’m going to pin it for when I’m not pregnant and can really train again.
