Ever since I became pregnant I’ve needed to keep food with me AT ALL TIMES. As you guys know, I’ve also had a ton of food aversions making it easier said than done to be prepared. It’s been super important that the food that I keep with me has a mix of healthy carbohydrates and fat to help curb nausea. It also needs to be SUPER appealing, because again, nausea.
That’s when I came up with the idea for shredded wheat trail mix “recipes.” They have seriously been a lifesaver. I thought of a bunch of combos to pair with the new Post Frosted Shredded Wheat flavors and they are all winners!
For the first batch, I went for more of a traditional trail mix with salted almonds, chocolate, and Post® Frosted Shredded Wheat. Only I chose to use dried blueberries instead of more traditional raisins because I banned raisins from my house when I found out how sick they can make dogs. My point is you could totally use raisins here if you wanted!
Original Shredded Wheat Trail Mix
Ingredients
- 1 cup Post® Frosted Shredded Wheat Cereal
- 1/3 cup salted and roasted almonds
- 1/4 cup dried blueberries or raisins
- 1/4 cup dark chocolate chunks
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a resealable bag.
Nutrition
For the second version I wanted more of a tropical flavor, so I used more tropical nuts and fruits. I used macadamia nuts, cashew nuts, dried pineapple and Post® Frosted Shredded Wheat Strawberry flavor!
Shredded Wheat Tropical Trail Mix
Ingredients
- 1 cup Post® Frosted Shredded Wheat Strawberry
- .25 cup roasted and salted macadamia nuts
- .25 cup roasted and salted cashews
- .25 cup dried pinneapple
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients into a resealable plastic bag.
Nutrition
For the last version, it was all about the chocolate. The Post® Shredded Wheat Frosted Chocolate Strawberry flavor has a chocolate biscuit surrounding a bite of chocolate with a strawberry frosting. I paired it with mixed nuts and banana chips, yum yum!
Shredded Wheat Chocolate Trail Mix
Ingredients
- 1 cup Shredded Wheat Frosted Chocolate Strawberry
- .5 cup mixed nuts
- .25 cup dried sliced bananas
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a resealable plastic bag.

You can actually find these new flavors of Post® Shredded Wheat in the cereal aisle with all your other favorite POST products. I picked mine up at our local Walmart Supercenter.
So now I have these portable trail mix snack bags to bring with me wherever I go or I have a stash in the cabinet for when the craving strikes! To me, there is nothing better than a bowl of cereal in the afternoon during this pregnancy. I’ve seriously never been so obsessed, but I feel a big difference when I reach for a healthier choice like shredded wheat.
