Hi friends! Mr. Hungry and I took a casual trip to San Diego last weekend which is why I’ve been playing catch-up all week! I figure today I’ll pretend to be a travel blogger for the day and share with you a bit about our trip! If you are only here for the food, feel free to skip this post.
Okay so, we ended up driving down Thursday night and working remotely from the hotel room on Friday. This was a very impromptu relaxed “babymoon” that was mostly just walking around, sitting on the beach, and eating. Very much a lazy vacation! A little bit of an early anniversary celebration and a little bit of babymoon!
We stayed at Ocean Beach hotel in a room overlooking the water on Pacific Beach! It was definitely a treat to be that close to the water and to be able to see the ocean as we worked remotely from our hotel room. The day started with breakfast at Woody’s Beach Cafe which was just stones throw from the hotel! I got a breakfast burrito and Mr. Hungry got epic French Toast. (This whole trip I never got a good picture of Mr. Hungry lol)
Remote working view! Not too shabby!
For lunch, we hit up the spot right next to our hotel attached to another hotel called World Famous. The crab cakes were DELICIOUS, but the rest of the food was only kind of so-so, on par with the Yelp star level.
It was a late lunch so it ended up being lunch/dinner. After work, we spent some time with our feet in the hot tub (I know I can’t get in since I’m pregnant! I did not get overheated so no one worry!)
And watching the waves! We rented Jurrasic Park on paper view that night which was 100% worth the 20 dollars we paid to watch it! ha ha
The next day we hit up Mission Cafe for breakfast which was probably my favorite meal of the whole trip. I got the Mission Rosemary which had rosemary potatoes, scrambled eggs, and rosemary bread. So much yum! Mr. Hungry got pumpkin pancakes!
For lunch, we went to Mr. Hungry’s favorite restaurant possible in all of North America if not the world, Blue Water Seafood Market and Grill. We actually ate there twice, once late Thursday night and again for lunch on Friday. Mr. Hungry LOVES it and for good reason, it’s really really delicious.
For the first time we went, I got a halibut taco and a red snapper taco, but I could only finish one taco. Each taco comes with FOUR OUNCES of fish. So much!
The second time we went, my stomach was a little more ready for more food. We started with some onion rings and fried shrimp!
And we shared these BEAUTIFUL grilled shrimp in a lemon butter sauce. And this time I learned, I only got one halibut taco.
Mr. Hungry wants me to tell you he much prefers the Blue Water location on India street compared to the other locations. So, ya know, do with that information what you will!
After Blue Water, guess what I convinced Mr. Hungry to do with me? You’ll never guess! We got mani pedis! I didn’t ask him if I could share this or this photo, so ya know I’ll ask for forgiveness later! I just had to share it was so much fun! You know he was in heaven with that massage chair going! ha ha
We went to Blue Ocean Nail Spa, which was a medium size very clean shop within walking distance from the hotel.
I got an SNS manicure which they finished with a gel top coat. I try to avoid the UV lights so that wasn’t my favorite thing, but obviously, one time isn’t that big of a deal especially since I used to do gel all the time. It will be interesting to see if it lasts longer! I also got a regular pedicure. Sorry didn’t take any pictures though!
For dinner, we went out for Ramen! It was pretty cold most of the time so ramen totally hit the spot. (You can see my nails below a little lol)
And afterward, we went to get ice cream next door to ramen place for the second time. I don’t know how I’ve never been to this place, but holy cow Handel’s ice cream is so creamy, flavorful, and out-of-this-world delicious. I’m not even an ice cream “person” per se, and I was hooked! The first time I got salted caramel toffee and the second time I got a coffee chocolate chip, both of them were out of this world!
Someone on Instagram messaged me to let me know there is a Handel’s in Gilbert about 20 minutes from my house, this is going to be dangerous for this pregnant lady!
Anyways after ice cream, we paper viewed another movie at the hotel – Where the crawdads sing. It was so good, I just wish I would have gotten to read the book first! I may still read it. Those of you that have read and seen it, should I still read the book?
Speaking of pregnant and babies, got a photo of the baby’s first trip to the beach!
I pretty much lived in my Beyond Yoga maternity leggings this trip plus random oversized hoodies and my Puremotion adidas tennies I got from Stitchfix Freestyle.
Meh, pregnancy fashion this time around is so much harder I feel like. Everything I like is high-waisted jeans and shorter shirts, hard to replicate when your jeans are actually low-rise with a pregnancy band on the top. I’ll probably just live in leggings until she is born! I got to tell you, friends, I felt 100% so much better after this trip. So a BIG thanks to my in-laws for watching the kids while they were sick (the kids and them – damn preschool colds.) It was just the mental health break I needed to recharge! Mr. Hungry kind of insisted on this trip and I’m so glad he did, it was really nice.
We of course missed the kids and felt super terrible when KJ asked why we didn’t take him to the beach. But, we know that we will have plenty of family vacations in the future and it’s also important for Mama and Dada to get away. Vacations are more like trips with kids, which is fine, but it’s true ha ha. We likely won’t be going anywhere (since I’m pregnant) until after baby Nora gets here and then we have some trips planned for a wedding etc. So I’m glad we got to go to the beach and relax.
San Diego Area is pretty much our favorite place to get out of town for the weekend, here are some other trip recaps:
- Oceanside Vacay 2021 (We took a 2.5-year-old and a 7-week-old – lots of travel tips for babies/toddlers!)
- Del Mar/La Jolla/Torrey Pines 2016
With KK we did a babymoon in Sedona, you can read about that here! No babymoon with KJ lol I was too sick!

I’m cracking up at “paper view”. It’s actually “pay per view”, as in, pay to watch.
