Hi friends! I can’t believe I’m FINALLY getting this post up! If you follow on Insta, you may remember seeing I ordered some new Paleo Frozen Meals through Thrive Market.
If you aren’t familiar with Thrive Market, it’s the online retailer where I get most of my shelf-stable groceries, household toiletries, some of my meat, natural cleaning supplies, and other natural organic products. Think Amazon (meaning you get packages to your door liquidy split after shopping in your PJs) meets Costco (wholesale pricing on your favorite items) meets Whole Foods (high quality natural and organic ingredients). It’s the best!
I paid $89.99 (yes, I bought them myself) for three stir fry meals and two bowls, but it looks like the price has dropped a bit since then. They have six meals, eight meals, and ten meal options to build out yourself on Thrive Market.
I’ve been a big fan of Primal Kitchen for years, especially their avocado oil salad dressings, so I was excited to try these!
The flavors included:
- Chicken Pesto Bowl
- Chicken Panang Curry Bowl
- Beef and Mushroom Bowl (I did not order this – we don’t like mushrooms.)
- Chicken Fried Rice Cauliflower Skillet
- No Soy Chicken Terriyaki Skillet
- Steak Fajitas Skillet
About the meals:
- Freezer friendly meals tailor to the Whole 30 and Paleo Diets
- Frozen at peak freshness
- Ready in minutes

- Free of gluten, dairy, grains, refined sugar, preservatives, and soy

- High protein and veggie-packed meals
Skillet Meals
The skillet meals were SUPER easy to make and tasted AH-MAZING. Each one is dumped from frozen directly into the skillet with a little avocado oil and comes together in less than 20 minutes.
Overall we liked the skillet meals. However, since neither Mr. Hungry nor I am trying to lose weight, the portions were a little small for us. For instance, the Steak Fajitas Stir Fry is only 200 calories per serving. I could have easily eaten the whole bag. However, when paired with a few easy sides, it was delicious! (We had guac and chips and taco seasoning flavored cauliflower rice.) Oh, and I added cheese because we aren’t paleo, it was delicious without, I just love cheese on Mexican food.
The other two meals were a bit more hearty than that one, definitely two servings for me, but not quite two servings for Mr. Hungry. Mr. Hungry said the No Soy Chicken Terriyaki was his 100% favorite meal! We both appreciated a soy-free option since so many frozen meals are loaded with soy, and that’s something we try to keep at a minimum in our house (Mr. Hungry is sensitive to it, it dominates the food supply, disrupts hormones, etc.)
My favorite meal of all of them was the chicken stir fry. It was so0000000 good! I could eat it for every meal!
Individual Bowls
The individual meals were VERY filling with rich satisfying flavors that definitely lit up my tastebuds! Did I m mention they took less than five minutes to make? Mr. Hungry ate both the chicken pesto bowls before I could take a picture (so that shows you how good they were!) But, I did get a before and after picture of the delicious curry bowl!
As you can see from the before picture, these meals are packed with a ton of veggies!
And after, the veggies covered in delicious, rich, creamy curry sauce. I did end up adding some brown rice I had on hand, but I ate this meal twice, and it was plenty filling without. This day I was incredibly hungry and had the rice, so I threw it in. If you don’t do grains, no worries, you don’t need it.
Are the Primal Kitchen Meals Healthy?
Frozen food, in general, is going to have a bit more sodium to help preserve it than if you made it fresh. What I appreciate is PKs commitment to clean ingredients within their meals. With the Primal Kitchen brand, you can be sure you are getting something that is as close to how you would have made it at home as possible, and that’s what I’ve always loved about them, and these meals are no exception! While I still wouldn’t recommend you eat frozen food every day of your life, I think having a solid high quality back up to keep you on track is a good idea!
Overall, I would absolutely recommend these meals if you are looking for something quick to have on hand (like a paleo version of Daily Harvest.) I think it’s great to have meals like this on hand as a back up on crazy days, so you don’t end up in the drive-thru line! I know I’ll be keeping these delicious meals in mind to throw in my Thrive Market order every once in a while when I get behind on meal prep.
I did some research, and outside of Thrive Market, it looks like the meals are available at some natural grocery stores like Natural Grocers and Whole Foods. None of them offer the wholesale, buy in bulk discount that Thrive Market offers though (and sales!)
PS If you aren’t a Thrive Market Member already, you can learn more by watching my latest unboxing video and grab a special discount on trying out their membership using my partner link here!
Have you guys tried these meals yet? What did you think?
