I’m so excited to finally share our safari nursery with you guys today! It’s been a labor of love in the works, but I’m so happy with the way it turned out! So without further ado, here it is! Our little safari nursery!
I started where everyone starts nowadays, Pinterest! In the first trimester, I made a secret nursery Pinterest board which I have since made public. I settled pretty quickly on the safari theme. I’m not sure what drew me to it other than Mr. Hungry, and I share a love of animals. One of our first trips together was to San Diego where we went to Sea World and the San Diego World Zoo. It seemed meant to be because we found these cute little signs for a dollar each at Goodwill right after I decided, score!
The sunshine sign is from Hobby Lobby; I moved it from our family room to the nursery when I realized how well it matched. The wall space to the right is open for a handmade gift from my MIL which I haven’t seen yet.
The giraffe decal my mom got at the dollar store, I didn’t think I would use it, but it turned out pretty cute! The Dr. Seuss map hanging way above the crib so that baby can never reach it is from Target, we got that pretty early on. Probably before we even had any of the furniture!
We got the furniture next. I’m hesitant to say where I got it from, but since I know, someone will ask it’s the Hanley Cloud crib, dresser, and hutch/bookcase from Buy Buy Baby. I’ll just say we had significant issues with the delivery of our furniture and I’ll leave it at that. Once we did have our furniture, I kind of started to build around that. I ordered collapsable cloth boxes on the bottom shelf of the bookcase when I realized there wasn’t anywhere for hungry baby to put any of his toys when he got older. Then I also ordered the zebra and monkey hamper/bins because they were so freaking cute! That’s where all the stuffed animals that we have received that are not safari themed currently live.
I picked up random stuffed animals from various places. The lion is from Ikea, the giraffe is from Hobby Lobby (but it’s a TY brand so here is the link on Amazon), and the elephant was given to us at our baby shower by Hungry Babys soon to be godfather and his awesome girlfriend. I haven’t asked, but I saw a very similar one at Target the other day. So I think that might be where they got it.
For the crib, I ordered this mattress, these sheets (got extras for my baby shower as well) and my favorite thing ever, this super cute mobile! Sometimes I go into the nursery and play the mobile just to watch it; I’m such a sap! It is super calming though, at least for me so hopefully for baby too. Speaking of that, I’m not sure when Hungry Baby will sleep in the crib. I know that I want him with us in the bassinet in our room for at least 4-6 months but not 100% married to any timeline.
When did you move your baby to the nursery crib?
My aunt also handmade this ADORABLE quilt. I love it so much I kind of don’t want the baby to use it, haha. Like it’s one of those gifts that is so thoughtful and special I feel like I should hang it on the wall and never let the baby touch it. Well not until he is full grown and I’m giving it to him for his baby! It’s like the china or silver of baby gifts, for special occasions only! Just kidding, but not.
Speaking of family gifts, this old rocking chair came from my Grandmas house. I know it doesn’t look that comfortable, it’s probably not. My mom got some temporary chair pads from Walmart and is making better ones that are foam. I figure if it’s not comfortable I’ll just nurse on the couch, no big deal.
(Literally, everyone in my family is more crafty than me. I decided to use my crafty gene to create recipes and then it got all used up or something! Luckily they are around to do stuff like that for me!)
The boppy breastfeeding pillow our friends got off the registry also matches nicely! The cross is from Hobby Lobby, and the picture of Saint Micheal was in Mr. Hungry’s room growing up.
Of everything in this room though, this rug from World Market is BY FAR my favorite. It was definitely a splurge (I hate how expensive rugs are) but entirely worth it. It’s my favorite thing in the whole room, I mean under what other circumstances can you have a rug with elephants in your house?
So that’s it! I hope you enjoyed this little tour of our safari nursery! Now, all we need is to get this baby here!!!!
Here are a few things I didn’t mention that are pictured:

I love it, how cute! I have a rocking chair like that. I found it to be most comfortable with the bottom cushion, but no back cushion. So excited for you!

What a wonderful job you did! I’m a fellow animal lover and would have loved to have had this nursery for my little one. It’s obvious this was a labor of love.
