This creamy, healthy coleslaw dressing is tangy, and a little bit sweet but is significantly lighter, perfect for cabbage and carrots!
I decided to finally post the healthy coleslaw dressing that I initially developed for my healthy coleslaw recipe, in case some of you are looking for just the dressing separately! I usually use a tri-color cabbage mix, but you could use this on any color cabbage or just carrots. You could also use it as a sweet, tangy dressing for crunchy veggies like shredded radishes, bell peppers, or kale. So it’s actually really versatile beyond just being used on cabbage!
How to Make Healthy Coleslaw Dressing
Swaps & Subsitutions
Mayo – If you want the traditional taste of coleslaw, you have to use mayo. I recommend avocado oil mayo for its healthy fats and neutral taste. Also, chosen foods makes an awesome egg-free mayo if you’d like to kee this egg-free.
Plain Yogurt – I don’t recommend Greek yogurt because it has too strong of a sour flavor. Plain yogurt tends to be milder in taste but still cuts a significant amount of the calories from using all mayo. It’s the perfect happy medium. I like to use dairy-free plain Kite Hill or organic plain 2% yogurt.
Honey – Don’t omit! You can use brown rice syrup for vegan or substitute your favorite low-calorie liquid sweetener, like a few drops of stevia.
Celery Seed – Do not omit. It’s essential to the flavor! Now, I’ve had a few comments on my healthy coleslaw recipe that this ingredient is hard to find, I found them on Amazon!
Mustard Powder – Do not omit. It’s essential for your traditional coleslaw flavor!
How to Store Healthy Coleslaw Dressing
You’ll store this dressing in the fridge for 5-7 days. Keep an eye on your yogurt and mayo expiration date, though. If they expire sooner than 5-7 days, then so does your dressing. Also, your dressing will store longer by itself, so if you make this ahead, wait to add it to whatever veggie you will use until you are ready to eat!
