Hi friends! I’m just popping in to share a little bit about our weekend in Tucson!
Apparently I 100% failed at taking photos and documenting the trip, so this will be somewhat of a short post. The truth is, my back pain that flared on the way back from Chicago was giving me a hell of a time this past weekend, that’s probably the reason for the lack of photos. Every time I sat down it felt like someone was stabbing me in the sits bone and setting my hamstring on fire (I’ve dealt with this for years and now know its referral pain from a disk issue.) I had to lay on my side when we drove from Phoenix to Tucson ( a two-hour drive). As the weekend went on I found ways to cope, I picked up a lidocaine roll-on stick and that seemed to help (my prescription anti-inflammatories seem to be doing nothing at all). It’s like my MIL said, I’ve learned from this experience, even if it was something I didn’t want to learn. I can’t travel every weekend 3-4 weekends in a row and I need to be preemptive about taking my anti-inflammatories when I fly. Luckily, our family is coming to us for Thanksgiving and Christmas (check out my Thanksgiving menu) so I’ll be able to just work on getting better. My guess is it will just take time for the irritation in the disk to go away, but I’m headed to Dr.K today for some direction. As of right now I really can’t sit longer than 10 minutes without pain and as the day goes on it gets worse. Given all that I have to give a big shout out to Mr. Hungry who drove me around everywhere, I needed to go and was so supportive this weekend.
That was our pit stop at one of his favorite places in Tucson, Lucky Wishbone. Unfortunately, I think he realized it wasn’t as good as he remembered it. It’s fried everything, and he was not digging it as much as he did in college. Some things I guess are better left in college haha! Anyways, if you don’t remember the reason we were in Tucson was for Alyssa & Ethan’s wedding. (I shared our trip to Seattle for her bachelorette party and her bridal shower as well.) A little backstory: Alyssa and I were randomly paired together freshman year in the dorms. While we didn’t see it immediately, Alyssa’s mom called that we would be besties and she was right! Alyssa was also one of two readers, her and my MIL when I first started the blog. Some college friendships seem to fizzle as I get older, which is sad but I understand. Ours seems to get stronger and stronger which I am forever grateful for. She and Ethan have been together for over ten years! I’ve seen them flourish in the hardest times like long distance, graduate school, and puppy training. They are truly a team in all that they do and their love for each other radiates from them!
Their wedding overlooked the Tucson skyline, right before sunset. I’ve lived in the desert almost my whole life, but the sunset right following the ceremony seriously took my breath away! (Sorry I know we are dark in the photo below, but I wanted you to see the sunset more than us!)
I have a TON of cooking to do this week to get caught up on recipes for the blog (which works out because less sitting), and I’ve got to head to my chiropractor so I’ll catch you guys later! I’ll leave you with this photo of us right before the ceremony!
