Happy Friday, friends! This week has been much better than last week when I was dealing with a back pain flare-up. I’m on the mend now and looking forward to getting in some light workouts this weekend! Other than that, it’s been a pretty low-key week here. KJ had his first field trip recently, which made him feel like such a big kid! Tonight, he’s heading to a free LEGO event with his cousin at Barnes & Noble, which should be a lot of fun. I’m so grateful they’re getting to spend more time together, especially at this age. I think I mentioned in his 6-year-old update how he and his cousin have really become close, and it’s clear they genuinely enjoy each other’s company. My nephew, being a solid three years older than KJ, does sometimes get a little bored, but for the most part, they play really well together. I remember joking when KJ was 2 and my nephew was 5 that they’d be best friends in a few years. Now, here we are—KJ is 6, and my nephew is 8!
In other news, the kids have a break from Saturday sports for a bit, which has been a nice change—no rushing out of the house on Saturdays! Last weekend, Mr. Hungry and I hit up the sauna for my back, which was really nice. Hopefully, this weekend, we can actually work out and sauna together—ha! We’ve never had a gym membership with childcare before, so it’s been awesome not having to “trade off” workout times on the weekend (or someone sacrifice) and actually getting to work out at the same time. It almost feels like a little date hanging out in the sauna together (#parentlife). Mr. Hungry can stay in for 35 minutes or more, but I’m good with 20-25 minutes. The weather this weekend is supposed to be fantastic, too, so I’m sure we’ll get in lots of walks!
What You May Have Missed This Week:
On the gram:
Friday Favorites
Chobani High Protein 20G Yogurt
I know I’ve mentioned this yogurt before, but I love it so much! It’s so filling and makes it so much easier to get more protein in my day.
The Only Bean Edamame Crunch
Another great way to get more protein—I’ve been snacking on it all week!
Great Harvest Bakery
I’m so excited to have found a Great Harvest nearby! I loved the one we had near our house in Tempe. The sourdough here is amazing, and their honey whole wheat is a must for my healthy French toast.
Recent Reads
I finally made a good reads account! Follow only if you like spice ha ha
OMG, speaking of spicy, the Wolf Hotel Books. I literally can’t put them down—I can’t listen or read enough. The storyline is a bit cliché: a southern small-town farm girl meets a rich business tycoon. But the writer is a genius! The farm girl constantly surprises you, making you question what you thought was naivety, but then you realize she’s not as innocent as she seems. Her thought process reminds me of college, decoding every text from a guy you were into. And the way she paints the MMC—there’s no clear picture of who he is. You’re guessing right alongside the farm girl: is he a rich business tycoon using her, or does he actually care? Is he controlling, or is he being fair because she is just as jealous? I’m telling you, do yourself a favor and download this series now. Then, set aside some serious reading time—you’ll need it!
I almost forgot to mention that I also read Blackbird and Butcher. Honestly, I almost didn’t finish it—it was really not my cup of tea. Way, way, *way* too gory for me. It’s essentially about two serial killer vigilantes who find each other and slowly fall in love. For me, the plot, the writing, even the spicy scenes were a 3/10. I was honestly surprised I made it to the end. It’s probably the first book I’ve read in years where I felt relieved to finish! I was skimming as fast as I could to get past the gory details. Not. For. Me.
I know a lot of people LOVE this book (it has over 40,000 four-star reviews +), so maybe I’m just not into dark humor or dark romance. I’m also not into murder podcasts like many of my friends are, and I know some of you love that vibe! If that’s your thing, you might really enjoy this book and hate me for hating it.
