Hi, friends! And Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
After my 23 and my result recently revealed that I’m 99.5% Irish (which tracks with the genealogy my grandparents and Aunt have done over the years), I’ve been more into embracing that heritage, especially after KK came out blonde hair, blue eyes, and fair fair skin, despite being one-quarter Middle Eastern/Chaldean, my Irish genes took that round! He was less than enthused about the picture in their green shirts, though. Toddlers, I swear. Anyways, I’ve also got the slow cooker cooking traditional corn beef for dinner tonight! I got my corn beef through ButcherBox this year, so I’m excited to try it because last year, Trader Joe’s precooked stuff was a bust.
Don’t worry. I’m going to add the carrots, potatoes, and cabbage a little later per the recipe I’m following.
I also got the kids Bernstein Bears St. Patrick’s Day and How to Catch A Leprechaun. Per my tradition of PJs or a shirt and holiday books for smaller holidays. Their St. Patrick’s Day shirts are from Old Navy.
Other than that, this week has been kind of tough. Not only was Mr. Hungry on his last business trip till babe arrives, but I also had some pubic symphysis pain/pelvic pain that made it hard to stand past 10-20 minutes. I saw my chiropractor yesterday, who did some soft tissue work and adjustments and modified my circuit to include deep squats. Today I did my hair and makeup without ending up in extreme pain, so I would say that is a huge improvement. This weekend KJ has soccer, and then if my pelvis lets me, I’m planning to start a little freezer meal prep for babe. We will see what happens! Either way, the weather is gorgeous, so I’ll be enjoying that with the kiddos.

Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream
Real story. I bought a Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker literally two years ago when KK was born, and never made a thing in it. It sat in our cabinet for two years, haha Now that the kids are into ice cream, I thought it would be fun to get it out and try making some ice cream with them. I’ve done vanilla and chocolate with them, and I used the egg-free recipes (expensive and raw eggs not recommended for pregnancy) in the Cuisinart book, and they were delicious! I think this will be a fun staple for this summer!
Park Picnics
The weather has been sooooooo nice. We took advantage of it last weekend with a park picnic. The boys take their jeep and ride it all over the green park by our house while Mr. Hungry chases them around, and I sit on the blanket watching. Then, we take a break for lunch! PS KJ’s little Adidas outfit was from Stitchfix kids. In KJ’s last box, I asked for a bunch of athletic gear to wear for spring sports, and they sent awesome sets from Nike, Adidas, and Puma that were less than $30 dollars huge win!
Amazon Maternity Shorts
I’m definitely in the “I just want to be comfortable stage” of pregnancy. I realized that my jean maternity shorts and the other two I had leftover from my other pregnancies were just too much pressure on the lower pelvis region for me to be comfortable (especially this past week with all the extra pressure.) I also know from experience that it’s incredibly difficult to find clothes to wear that I kind of like post-partum as the summer hits in May (KK’s due date was a week away from baby girls, so let’s just say this isn’t my first rodeo with a late spring/summer birth.) I also didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so I scoured Amazon for shorts that would be comfy, not obviously maternity, so I would be comfortable wearing them postpartum, and cheap enough to dump them when I didn’t want them anymore. These Amazon maternity shorts fit all those buckets. I sized up, so they were extra comfortable and very loose, and I ended up ordering three pairs total! Highly recommend!
Young Forever – Mark Hyman
There are two things I’ve always loved about celebrity functional and integrative doctor Mark Hyman. First, he is a medical doctor that transitioned into functional medicine, meaning he has both conventional and integrative training. This is much like myself. I’m a conventionally trained Dietitian that has transitioned into functional nutrition through additional training. Second, I agree with 90% of his recommendations in his books, podcasts, etc. His recommendations are very similar to the interventions I do with my clients, and they are effective and not extreme. That’s the key.
I pre-ordered the Young Forever book on Audible and listened to it in just a few short weeks. After I listened to it, I went back and ordered a physical copy to highlight and tab for reference. I think this is a fabulous book for both functional medicine providers and patients alike. I’ve done a lot of separate training in the past year in every area of medicine he wrote about, but I loved how he brought it all together. He does get kind of technical in some of the books, but his ultimate recommendations for diet, exercise, supplements, lifestyle, and when to see a functional medicine provider are on point. It’s exactly what I recommend for and do with my clients, family, and self (although I’m better at all the things when not pregnant, haha.) It’s a good read if you want to be fully updated on all the latest and most effective available preventative and regenerative medicine techniques out there today. Great for both practitioners and those with no medical background, generally interested in wellness.
