Hi Friends! How is your day going so far? Mine has been crazy busy, just the way I like it. I planned to run this morning (wohoo for running!) but got caught up in a million things so by the time I was ready to go I was HUNGRY, so I had breakfast (I can not workout when I’m hungry.)
Two eggs on a piece of Alvarado St Bakery Flax Bread with butter and ketchup!
A little while later Nala and I headed out on a slow and steady run. I’ve been feeling better but was being super guarded, so Dr. K encouraged me to go out for a run. I started last Monday night with a 30 seconds on/30 seconds off run and progressed Tuesday to a walk with a one mile run mixed in.
Last night I was joking with my amazing Chiropractor (Dr.K) that “I didn’t even turn on my Garmin watch because I knew it would be terrible.”
Instead of laughing along side with me he said “you’ve got to stop being so hard on yourself.” He went on to remind me how in our society, in general, we are never positive, there is so much negativity.
When I started to protest “I just think it’s crazy that a month a go I ran a half marathon and here I am.” He quickly responded, “and three weeks ago you decided to deadlift with really heavy weight and most likely terrible form.”
Touché, friend, touché.
His point? I’m damn lucky to be running three weeks after flaring a back injury that bothered me for TWO YEARS, I should focus on that. I think the reason I protested so hard is because I tell my Hungry Hobby RD clients that ALL. THE. TIME. I am so quick to remind them to be kind to themselves, practice positive self talk and to be proud of all they have accomplished. I encourage them that bumps in the road are just placed there to ride over. Sometimes it’s hard to take your own advice, until someone else gives it to you. So I took it easy on today’s run and instead of thinking about how much I used to run or what I did before, I thought about what a great feeling it was to walk/run.
And then I refueled with my greatest smoothie win of the last month or so. I feel like my last few smoothies haven’t been that fantastic so I was really pleased when this one turned out delicious!
