Christmas Eve
We went to the 4 pm Christmas Eve mass which is my least favorite time to go to mass with children, aka the witching hour. But we made it through!
Last year was better than this year though, last year we couldn’t even get any photos the kids were so cranky and hopped up on Christmas energy.
Mr. Hungry’s parents met us at our house (they go to midnight mass) after mass and took a few more photos when we got home!
I love the way the matching dresses turned out! How long do you think she’ll let me match with her? haha
Christmas Morning
The kids had a great time Christmas morning ripping through presents. We couldn’t even get them to eat breakfast till halfway through the morning! I’m glad we snapped a quick selfie with my iPhone because the brand-new Christmas PJs quickly got dirty!
Among their favorite presents were the forest and safari magana-tile extension pack my Aunt got them.
Around mid-morning, they finally settled down enough to eat some homemade cinnamon rolls and bacon. I followed this recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction (one of my favorite baking bloggers). I followed her make-ahead instructions, and they turned out great. and we agreed we would make them again. However, they get dark on the top FAST, so next time, I will cover them after five or so minutes. I didn’t check on them until they’d been in for 15 minutes, and they were already pretty brown on top.
While the grandparents played with the kids, Mr. Hungry and I were busy setting up for Christmas “dinner” which we had around 4 pm.
Tablecloth (similar) | Woven Placemats (similar) | Plates, Napkins, Napkin Holder (Hobby Lobby)
On the menu:
- Roasted Garlic and Parmesan Asparagus
- Maple Dijon Carrots (not shown, I don’t like cooked carrots)
- Bacon Mac and Cheese
- Roasted Garlic mashed potato –> show-stopping mashed potatoes for sure!
- Stove Top Stuffing (Mr. Hungry had to have it)
- Prime Rib and Horseradish Cream
- Homemade Pecan Pie
- Buckeye Balls
Mr. Hungry and I spent three days preparing all the meals plus the cinnamon rolls and an egg bake I forgot to take a picture of. It was worth all the preparation and love that went into it. The only thing I would do different is have simpler veggie dishes with such rich carb dishes. Like just a simple salad or steamed veggies to kind of palate cleanse between all the really rich stuff. But, overall things were delicious!
Overall, it was a nice holiday minus when KK threw up, kids I swear. We were hoping for snow during Christmas week since Mr. Hungry was off it would have been easier to head up to Flagstaff to play in the snow, but unfortunately, we are still waiting for the snow.
That’s it for us! I hope everyone had a lovely and at least somewhat relaxing holiday season! I’ll leave you with a picture of our family Christmas card! See you soon with more health-related posts and recipes. As always, thanks for providing a fun space for my family and I to share our memories!
