Hi Friends! It’s the end of the month so it’s time for another little update! Nala and I just got back from knocking out 5 miles and now I’m drinking coffee and she is rolling on the floor biting a bone.
Mr. Hungry is playing basketball for the next couple of hours so we have some time to sip our coffee and catch up.
If we were having coffee this morning, first I’d probably tell you all about my little caffeine detox and how much better I now feel after 1 cup of coffee than I did after 4!
I’d tell you about….
…my 6 day training split and how I’m starting notice muscles pop out of my skin in places I never had before, I’d probably show you and you would pretend to see what I was talking about because you are a good friend. I can also do at least one assisted pull up (chin up really) on level 7 (28lbs assisted) every week I drop a level of assistance!
…you might ask me how running is going and I’ll tell you it’s going, but mostly in HIIT workouts after lifting or one long run on the weekend. It’s not the focus right now, the next race that caught my eye is October in California near my in laws, it’s a hilly one so it would be challenging but fun for sure! My run group friends usually do the Phoenix Half which would be in February so I could safely do both “without a problem.” However, right now I’m focusing on getting ripped! Ya, I said it.
….and how May has some excited events to look forward to with friends and family from far including a visit from Paul’s cousin, a baby shower, Mother’s Day, and our nephews baptism.
…and how Mr. Hungry almost broke his foot and accidentally cracked Nala in the head kicking a tennis ball for her. Picture Mr. Hungry jumping around and the dog spitting blood as scenes from my horror film last Wednesday. Luckily it looks like Nala may have just bit her tongue but I still need to make a vet appointment to check it out. I should have known after we barely made it out of our engagement alive that we would be an accident prone family. Lord help us.
…speaking of Nala, we’ve started taking her to training classes again on Friday nights. Seriously, after that I feel like I need to double fist with a shot of tequila and a glass of wine. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Nala is the sweetest dog I have literally ever known, but that sight hound prey drive, man that is something else. I begged Mr. Hungry for a dog for months before we finally got our little jumping ridgie. I was injured and so bored of going on walks all the time as my only form of exercise by myself. So, Mr. Hungry said that if he was going to get a dog it would only be a ridgeback, we got lucky with a breeder do to her imperfect ridge and she was ours! We knew the advice out there was
– “not for the first time dog owner”
– “responds to positive feedback the best”
…blah blah blah what we didn’t know was all about the prey drive. That is the single most limiting factor in training ridgebacks in my opinion, they are extremely sight/prey driven and it’s hard, like extremely hard to get their attention once they’ve noticed something. Luckily our new training program is VERY familiar with Ridgebacks so although it’s mentally draining it’s worth it.
(side note- Mr. Hungry has had a hallux rigidous for 10 years, he has tried numerous interventions, foot doctors, creams, surgeon opinions with no significant outcome except a pair of orthotics and constantly icing his foot every single night. He has now started seeing my miracle worker, Dr. K at functional biomechanics. If you have had constant pain under your big toe for years you can email me and I’ll forward your email to Mr. Hungry. He would be happy to talk to you about how he has started restoring movement in his foot and managing/decreasing pain.)
….and speaking of Nala, her sister, Missy, fell or jumped of the second story the other day. Landed on her feet and ran back upstairs, scariest moment ever. What the heck dare devil kitty?
…and how much more I prefer the summer over the winter, I’m always cold so the summer is like a 6 month blessing, even when it gets REALLY hot I limit complaining because i’d take it over being cold any day.
…and how excited I am for every single summer holiday, there isn’t one that is better than America/My Birthday but I also enjoy Cinco De Mayo, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day and all the above.
…and how I’m excited to start training and nutrition coaching at a local gym in the middle of May. I have definitely missed the gym atmosphere it will be nice to be back!
Now its time for the Saturday morning chores blitz! Have a good one and see you Monday!
