We had such a blast in Nor Cal over the weekend… once we finally got there…. We were in the airport waiting and waiting while our flight got delayed again and again Thursday night.

Our flight ended up getting CANCELLED, which has never happened to me before, ever. We got in the long line for rebooking, but in the meantime I called the southwest customer service and got the first flight out in the morning. That was relatively painless, but then there was the issue of our one bag we checked. After the supervisor swore up and down to me that my bag would absolutely make it on the first flight out in the morning we headed home. Once we got home we had to get up 4 hours later to head back for round 2 at the airport. Luckily, everything went pretty smoothly Friday morning. We grabbed breakfast at Los Taquitos to eat on the plane, I got an egg and cheese burrito.
Once we got there I was pretty nervous that my bag wouldn’t show up, I was SO HAPPY to see my bag come down the carousel! The in laws picked us up and we headed down to Santa Cruz for some beach time!
That burrito was super filling so we worked up an appetite walking all down the pier, boardwalk, and beach.
The restaurant we found to eat at, Hula’s Island Grill, was absolutely one of the best and most delicious meals I’ve had in a long time. If you ever head to Santa Cruz I would highly recommend stopping there for a meal, you will be glad you did! We started with ahi poke for an appetizer, it was melt in your mouth delicious!
The shrimp spring rolls were really good too, the wrapper was crispy and light!
Everybody loved their entree, the assortment of seafood options was definitely abundant. I went with Hapu fish with Jamaican Jerk Sauce. I don’t like a lot of sauce so I started to push it off to the side before I took the picture. I think I ended up eating most of the sauce though because it was so spicy and good!
After that we walked back down to the beach via this cute little riverway.
We hung out at the beach for a little bit, but it started to get really really really crowded.
So we headed back down for one last walk down the pier.
Mr. Hungry had to try some chocolate covered bacon!
We spent the rest of the night pretty quietly, some pool, beer, and fireworks. It was really nice! In the morning I woke up to find out I had a new birthday present waiting for me!
I got a fitbit! Thanks Mama Shallal, Kal and Lizzie! Saturday we headed to San Francisco, which I was super excited about because I’ve been there a bunch of times, but Mr. Hungry hadn’t.
After Pier 39 we walked all the way down to the AT&T Ball Park, which was awesome because I had never been there before. How do people look so good in the wind? I’ll never know!
We took the public transportation back to the pier to get some classic pier food like fried shrimp and chowder filled bread bowls. Fighting the crowd and the seagulls to get to eat though was definitely not for the faint of heart.
More walking and touring led us to Little Italy for gelato, wine, and eventually pizza.
After the wine and the massive amount of walking I got a little lazy with my photo taking. My fitbit was going crazy though, congrats you have reached your first 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, 20,000, 25,000 steps….
It was a great trip, despite the hiccups at the beginning we had a LOT of fun! Mr. Hungry’s parents will be living there full time soon so I’m sure we will be back. Can’t wait to tour wine country!
[…] about it. It was also pretty exciting because the first day I got to wear it while we were touring San Francisco and ended up walking 11 miles in one day! Talk about getting off to a good start! Since then […]
