Hi Friends! As promised I’ve got a recap of the weekend for y’all (Texas twang enhanced). We had a great time, despite the fact that I think the city of Houston hates us. Last time we flew out there was for my SIL’s wedding, that time our flight was delayed till the morning and we almost didn’t make it for the wedding. This time there was a huge storm and although it only delayed our flight 30 minutes, all flights before us were diverted and then redirected, so they landed at the same time as us. We had to sit on the runway and wait for a gate for at least 45 minutes.
The airport was so crazy we had to take a rental car bus to the rental car place and have Mr. Hungry’s parents pick us up then. As if that wasn’t bad enough, because of the storm there was MASSIVE flooding, and the entrance to the hotel was blocked multiple nights in a row.
We didn’t get back into the hotel till 1 am but I’m proud of myself for getting up and getting a workout it in the morning.
Then it was off to little Joseph’s Christening.
I’ve only been to two Christenings in my life, my own and a family friends newborn baby. Joseph is only 4 months old but he did really well throughout the whole ceremony. He only cried at the end when the deacon drizzled the holy water all over him!
We spent the rest of the afternoon at my Brother In Law’s parent’s house where we enjoyed yummy cake, drinks, and traditional Texas Barbecue. I’m so sad I didn’t get a picture for you guys because it was some real down home Texas cooking at it’s finest with all the necessary ingredients baked beans, coleslaw, beef brisket, and pulled pork.
You know what else was real? The hot, and the humidity and the mosquitos. Somehow I managed to escape without ANY bites but everyone else was being eaten alive. My BIL said this has to do with blood type, I don’t know but I’m not complaining! My friend texted me after I posted this picture on IG and asked how it was, apparently I didn’t look that happy.
Well, the humidity is DEFINITELY not something I’m used to. Growing up Arizona means I know what suffocating hot is like, but not the humidity part, that is a whole new ball game. On the flip side though, I am mildly asthmatic and sometimes in AZ it’s hard to breathe but in Houston I could take DEEP breathes like I haven’t taken in years. I know that sounds weird, especially if you don’t have Asthma, but it’s true. That part felt amazing and so did my sweat dripping workouts, I sweat way more during my workouts than any other time!
On Sunday I got up for another Nike Trainer workout, plus 2 mile run. Then we went to mass then spent most of the day hanging out at my SIL’s apartment, aw life with a baby. We did venture out to Old Town Spring to do the tourist thing, which was EPIC. We went to Puffabelly’s Barbecue and ordered the sampler platter complete with deep fried onion rings, green tomatoes, pickles, cheese balls, and jalapeño strips (Texas Toothpicks).
After all that fried food I got a salad for my meal, #balance.
Monday I got in a 6 mile run on the treadmill while watching friends on Netflix, then we headed over to say our goodbyes to the family. So I actually spent most of the actual Memorial Day traveling! It was a fun and indulgent weekend, now I’m ready to get back on track with my goals for this week!
