Like every Friday favorite, today’s post is a lot of randomness. I know I already published a post this morning, so you have two posts in your inbox from Hungry Hobby Land. But that’s pretty much my life nowadays, sporadic AF, and I thought about waiting to post the waffles, but I couldn’t do that to you. They were too good, plus that post was ready to go, so I went ahead and published it because you never know these days ha ha. I did get a call from the school that KJ bumped heads with another kid, but luckily, the message ended with him being fine and me not needing to go down there. So this Friday, you lucky duck you, get two posts!
This week started weird and ended with me running up a gift for “Mary’s baby shower” to the elementary school just in time. Mr. Hungry and I even talked about it the night before; don’t forget the gift in the morning. Neither of us even came close to remembering. So there is that. That’s life, though! I have so many random things I’m excited to share with you, so let’s get to it! Happy Friday! Or, as I like to call it, coffee, blah blah blah, wine day.
Hungry Hobby On The Gram
(If you are on Facebook, I send a lot of what I post there, too! @hungryhobbyRD on Insta and @hungryhobby on FB.)
- Slow Cooker Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup did very well on the gram last Sunday. So, well, I think I’m gonna start a Sunday Slow Cooker series; here is the link to the recipe on the blog.
- And apparently, this quote and this quote really resonated with people!
- And please do yourself a favor, if you didn’t re-watch KJ’s turkey video this year you need to, you will laugh your but off.
Fall Colors Shining Through In December
Okay, so bear with me because I’ve never lived somewhere with seasons. Now, I wouldn’t say DFW has regular seasons either, but every time I walk outside, I’m in awe that it looks different. Phoenix is cactus and rock all the time, then the little bit of grass dies, and it’s even more brown. There are more seasons up north, but I’ve never lived there, only visited. I probably look like a crazy person who is always taking pictures of the trees. If you follow me on Instagram (@hungryhobbyRD), I’m sorry, but you will probably get a tree a day in the foreseeable future. You may want to go ahead and unfollow or mute stories, hahaha.
Fail Fast, Fail Often
I highly recommend this book! I’ve been listening to Coddie Sanchez on the gram talk a lot about how the most successful people are often the fastest. I wanted some advice on how to move faster because I wouldn’t describe myself as an early adopter. This book gave me so many insights and perspectives, especially regarding the impact of subliminal messages, positivity importance, overanalyzing, and procrastination (not something I thought I had an issue with until I read this book.) I realized that I’m not an early adopter because I’m procrastinating. As a “content creator,” I’ll see a trend I want to jump on or a new platform I want to try, and I’ll say to myself, “I’ll give that a try after email, blog post, client follow-up, etc.,” instead of experimenting and failing now. Can’t recommend this one enough! I have 30 minutes left, and I’m sad it’s almost over.
Dallas Dietitian Party & @boardmama
I am so grateful that my friend Melissa (who does the Sound Bites podcast – remember she has an amazing CEU bundle if you are in a pinch or want convenience and thousands of free CEUs as well) introduced me to one of her bestie, Neva. Although she just retired, Neva was one of the first RDs ever to be on TV, and she kind of paved the way for many others. Not only that, but she is a connector. She invited me to her annual RD get-together, where I met so many Dallas-based RDs, and I even reconnected with some old friends I didn’t know who lived in Dallas! There were all kinds of RDs there, including business, entrepreneurs, media, clinical, professors, and more. I am so so grateful to have been invited!
One of the old friends I connected with was Robin Plotkin, who I didn’t know lived in Dallas and is now running this amazing charcuterie board company. If you are in the Dallas area, you have to check out her Instagram account: @boardmama . I’m ordering a few individual boards for gifts for Mr. Hungy’s colleagues. If you aren’t in DFW, she does online (and in-person classes), which lord knows I need to attend! How fun, right? Definitely check her out!
Amazon Win – Large Mirror
Okay, so this mirror off Amazon is one of my biggest Amazon wins, maybe ever. We’ve always had large mirrors in our home gyms that we had professionally mounted to the walls. That’s not possible here as it’s a rental; this mirror is perfect! We were previously using the one on the left, haha. We also have zero full-length mirrors in this house,e so I’m so excited I ordered another one, slightly larger for half on black Friday, gold-trimmed instead of black, and should be here tomorrow! I got this 76-inch one for $50 bucks off, but honestly, even at its regular price, it’s worth it. I’m so so so happy with it! Mr. Hungry works out there more than I do (I prefer the real gym), so he was very grateful for the surprise purchase.
I need to clean it, but it’s pretty clear even without the cleaning. The picture below is how it came; that room is like a dungeon, so you aren’t getting natural light in this photo.
Trader Joe’s Grocery Haul
Me: I’ll just run in and get some wine and treats for the RD party.
Also Me:
Must restock kid snacks while there.
Also, I wanted to note that I stopped buying bagels and cream cheese for a while because I felt like there were a lot of white refined carbs that wouldn’t be that filling. But, I noticed the Trader Joe’s plain bagels have added iron, which is a nutrient KK struggles with (no meat except bacon, egg yolk, or bean consumption). So, this is an instance where I chose a more “processed option” specifically for an added nutrient. We do a lot of “cleaner” products that don’t have certain nutrients added back into some processed foods like cereals, etc. The best example of this – is the “healthy or cleaner ingredient.” Cinnamon Toast Crunch knockoffs at Sprouts don’t have added iron in them, but Cinnamon Toast Crunch does. I’d love for my kids to eat a well-rounded whole foods-based diet, but I can’t/won’t force the kid to eat meat. KK really likes bagels and cream cheese, so it’s an easy way to boost his iron intake. Do I wish he was eating more whole grains? Yes, but this is still serving him with a nutrient he needs right now. Just wanted to share! I think the inclination might be to judge a Mom who is feeding her kid a processed white bagel with cream cheese, but you never know why she is making the choices she is making!
Methyl Factors
This post is already long, but I feel like a lot of people have been asking me for methylated B Vitamins. I’ve loved this one for years, even before my genetic test showed the enhanced need for methylated B Vitamins.
Kindergarten Lunch Today
Blender Oat Pancakes – Kids Protein Ball (1 cup oat flour, 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1/4 cup honey, sh!tload of Christmas sprinkles, and more Christmas sprinkles to roll into) | Raisins | Snap Harvest Peas
Fitness
First of all, this LuLu outfit is my new favorite (PS I sized up in both and am glad I did, especially the leggings; I’m usually a size smaller in the align leggings)! Shirt | Leggings
Second, my workouts are two lower-body days, two upper-body days, and sometimes one HIIT workout. The HITT day is variable depending on how my back is doing and what’s in the program. I’m gonna wait to share more about the program until I get further into it. But, I was looking for something very boring and repetitive because that’s how I previously got the best results. I love what I have done so far!
Also, just wanted to share a quick reminder about body weight. I’m actually going in for a DEXA scan next week, which I’m INSANELY nervous about. Not because I give an F about the body fat percentage but because the bone density worries me. I had five years of amenorrhea; I know that can’t have just had zero impact, plus three pregnancies draining my reserve, so I’m so nervous about my bone density. I screened it once when we were in person and at the community college, and it wasn’t too alarming, but a DEXA scan will be more accurate and telling. Fingers crossed, it’s not too bad.
I’ve also been trying to go to the sauna on my rest days! It doesn’t always happen, but I feel great when it does! The sauna hits differently in a place that’s actually cold.

I’ll take two posts. Pumpkin recipes are a fave, and I like Friday Favorites post, so double win! Thanks for sharing!
