Happy Monday friends! As I mentioned last week in my coffee date, this October has some fun events that started with this weekend! So this week I’m bringing back the weekend recap!
Friday
I worked nonstop most of the day Friday except when I went to go get my eye and lips waxed. Um, first time I’ve waxed my lips and can I just say that sh*t HURTS! I don’t know if I can subject myself to that again. After finishing work I ran out to get my nails done and luckily was able to get into the place down the street with no wait! I STRUGGLED with my nail color because I like black in October, but I’m going on a work trip in a few weeks and I feel like I should be “professional.” I got black anyway! Then I rushed home and jumped in the shower so my MIL and I could head off to a friends baby shower. My MIL snapped this quick picture before we left!
Thanks to MIL for snapping a pic before we left! They had great food, I didn’t get a picture but it was burgers/hot dogs, beans, potato salad, and lots of veggies! I also ate the frosting off the top of this cupcake, I’m so a frosting girl more than a cake girl!
They had some of the most fun games I’ve ever played at a baby shower too!
- Bottle pong
- Men Race – guys put a balloon in their shirt and race to put on their shoes
- Guess the basket – which apparently I could have gotten the award for the highest guess. I think the total was like $67 and I guessed $147, at least children will be cheaper than I think!
- Ad libs
- Decorate the burb cloth – we did this at my SIL’s baby shower too and she used the burb cloths all the time!
How cute is my MIL with hers? Clearly, she is good friends with the Grandma of the baby ha ha
Saturday
My parents in law and I took Nala on a long walk and when I came back I got a workout in! Finally finished BBG program!
Then I quickly showered and got ready to hit the road to Tucson for a bridal shower! Alyssa and I were college roommates so we’ve known each other over 10 years now! You may remember her bachelorette party in Seattle (check it out if you are looking for places to eat there.) The big day is getting close!
PS she got that dress from Rent the Runway! Isn’t that amazing??????? I need to remember that for events like this, except the next few weddings I’m going to I’m in so no need ha ha. One of the other bridesmaids picked up our favorite Tucson restaurant for lunch, Beyond Bread!
There were lots of sandwich options but I had to go with my favorite, even though I knew the garlic would cause me heartburn, I HAD TO have the Rex’s Revenge. And what’s a bridal shower without cake? Alyssa and I share the love of the best type of cake in the world, CARROT CAKE! I had one GINORMOUS piece of carrot cake and have ZERO regrets about that! The candied walnuts on the outside layer were the best touch, the cake was also from Beyond Bread!
We played really fun games there too!
- Decorating recipe cards (I gave her my Grandma Cookies Recipes – the way my grandma wrote it )
- Guess the memory – someone writes down a memory and everyone but the bride guesses whose memory it was. Since all the bridesmaids had grown up together, except me, whenever they didn’t know they would guess me. I guess I was the mysterious college roommate haha!
- The questions game where the bride and groom both answer questions about their relationship and each other, and you get a point for answering like one of them.
For Alyssa’s gift I made her a bridal emergency kit, JUST like I had for my wedding. I knew she would remember it because Alyssa and my SIL tripped over me at my wedding and ripped my bustle. We sewed it up and everything was fine! I think she REALLY loved the gift! I forgot to snap a picture, but here is what was in mine!
Then I had to leave a little early so I could make it to mass with the in-laws and Mr. Hungry.
Followed by dinner at one of our FAVORITE restaurants Perfect Pear! I got the peanut curry bowl in which I mostly ate the veggies because I wasn’t that hungry given such an indulgent amazing lunch, but I did have a pear mule my favorite cocktail ever.
Sunday
Sunday started with a long family walk with Ms. Nala, I think we went three miles! We also stopped to practice Nala’s recall which almost turned into a scary freedom run from Nala. We were practicing in the middle school’s field which isn’t totally closed in. I made the mistake of UNHOOKING her instead of practicing the recall with the leash on. Of course, she thought that meant she was totally FREE and took off. She didn’t go far but I know if she had seen another dog or person she would have been gone. We usually have a trackRtrackR on her, but we got it wet so I’m waiting on a new one so of course, she didn’t have that. Luckily the rest of the walk was uneventful!
After our walk I headed to Trader Joe’s to take pictures of a TJ’s staples post I’m doing and grab some groceries for this week and next week. I won’t be able to grocery shop next weekend so I wanted to have some frozen staples ready to go! My meal prep consisted of making Mr. Hungry oats for breakfast:
My meal prep consisted of making Mr. Hungry oats for breakfast:
Ingredients: 1 cup oats, 2 scoopscollagenor 1 scoop protein powder, spoonful of cashew butter, enough almond milk to mix, 1 spoonful of coconut sugar. (For more overnight oats combinations check out this post and my video!)
Then Mr. Hungry and I teamed up to make his lunches. He marinated the chicken breast in zesty Italian from Sprouts for 20 minutes before grilling it. I cut up zucchini into rounds and sprinkled it with avocado oiland garlic salt, then put it in foil packets which also went on the grill. Then I added brown rice packets to each lunch. PS when I’m meal prepping like this I don’t cook the brown rice first because it’s already pre-cooked all you are doing is heating it up which he does when he heats his whole lunch.
We were having friends over so we also made the meal for them as well!
- pork ribs from butcher box – made in the instant pot
- bratwurst from Costco
- roasted delicata squash
- pumpkin salad from TJ’s without the cornbread croutons (we avoid soy and wheat for Mr. Hungry)
On the Menu This Week
I always like to see what others have planned for their menu, this is what is on my meal plan this week!
- Monday – Paleo Beef & Broccoli
- Tuesday – leftovers/ wing it – easy
- Wednesday – Pizza Spaghetti Squash
- Thursday – Taco Ground Beef Lettuce Cups
Home Gym
The guys (Mr. Hungry and his Dad) finished the gym this weekend so I can finally share it with you! I know this post is long AF. Sorry! Here it is!
Almost every single piece of equipment we have is from craiglist, we call Mr. Hungry the craigslist master!
The mirror we paid to have professionally installed, best money every spent!
This chest is from American Family Wearhouse and themail organizer is from Amazon!
This awesome shoe rack/cabinet is from Wayfair and so is the coat hanger! The key hanger Mr. Hungry surprised me with, he got it on Amazon!
Alright, this post was SUPER LONG, thanks for hanging out with me! I’d love to hear about your weekend? Was it jam-packed or laid back? Do you have a home gym?

The home gym looks amazing! I have a home gym and will never go back to an actual gym again. saves so much time.

What a nice weekend, hoping you got SOME time to relax, it looks crazy busy. How close are you to the Scottsdale area? I’m planning a bachelorette there in May and need all the bar/restaurant/hiking/shops ideas!
And your home gym looks so good! We have a gym in the garage, it works, but gets pretty cold in the winter months. I really wish we had a mirror so I could check on my form too.
Kelli Shallal MPH RD says
I’m relatively close but don’t go out there a whole lot except to downtown Scottsdale so sadly I don’t have that many great recommendations but email me and I can give you a few! The mirror is a life saver!
Emily @ Pizza & Pull-ups says
I am so jealous of your home gym, looks awesome! I now want Beyond Bread, it is so good!
Kelli Shallal MPH RD says
I’m jealous you can get it whenever you want!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
LOVE the home gym, but I really really love your outfit from the bridal shower. So cute. And I”m going to have to remember those games, not that I’m really going to be able to have a baby shower because no one lives around here!
Kelli Shallal MPH RD says
Ugh,that’s the pitts. Even better hold a shower then everyone will send you presents and you can open them while wearing sweat pants! I know I’m a genius!
