Hi out there in Thursday land, the weekend is in sight! Two things happened as of recently I wanted to share with you. First, giving up coffee is the most insane and yes the best thing I’ve ever done. Don’t get me wrong I’m halfway through my little detox, and I damn near got a decaf coffee instead of green tea yesterday at Starbucks, but somehow my willpower prevailed. So far my face/eye twitch I had developed has gone away, I’m able to make it through the day without large swings in energy, and I feel calmer. Except in the morning, I’m still getting used to the no coffee thing in the morning, so I’ve found I can be a little, okay a lot grumpy until Nala and I have walked it off.
So I’m starting every day with a fasted walk with little miss Nala which helps set a good tone for the day. I used to listen to podcasts every day when we would walk, but now I just take in the scenery. We walk around a large lake, and there are lots of bunnies, ducks, and other wildlife to see and hear, so I just soak it up and by the time I get home I’m ready for breakfast and to get to work. Like this smoothie which is my favorite green juice in smoothie form with a cup of almond milk.
Last week I gave myself a break as I came off the caffeine and sugar, slept a lot, didn’t work out much. This week I’m easing back into things slowly but surely! To prevent injury and safely build my back strength up I finally accept my friends offer to train with him, so now I’m officially working with a trainer. It’s always valuable to have someone watch your form, and he works part time in a rehab facility, so he knows corrective exercise 100x more than I do. Which means he can help me rebuild my back strength while still getting in great workouts!
The first workout was Monday, and he had me do some pretty elementary stuff at a relatively low-intensity level so he could assess where I was at, I was surprised when I woke up sore for the last couple days (holy glute kicking). What surprised me, even more, was how great my back felt the last couple of days, it’s been getting better every week, but the right type of workouts have always made it feel better. After recently re-injuring it I was having trouble coming up with workouts that made it feel great, my old standbys weren’t cutting it (likely because I continued doing rehab exercises up until the second injury, so they just weren’t as effective the second time around). However, these past two days have been amazing, so I’m pretty excited!
If you’ve been reading a while you know me, though, once a runner always a runner, and last night I got the hankering to run, so I put together this interval workout which was a complete sweat fest! This might be one of the top 10 workouts I’ve ever put together, or maybe I was just that ready for some interval training!

As always, make sure to check with a doctor before beginning an exercise program. I’m not there to check your form, so make sure you seek help if you are unsure. Modify as needed and have fun, this one is a killer!
