Happy Friday! I know it’s fitness Friday but as you guys know I pissed off my back a few weeks ago and have been re-habbing ever since. Needless to say my beloved HIIT sessions and circuits have been replaced with your basic core exercises to active those tiny deep and apparently sleeping stabilizer muscles. So when Chobani reached out to me to join their “crunch the numbers” campaign promoting little things that you can do to keep up your healthy living lifestyle and live a little lighter, I was all about it. To me, working out is a big thing I do to help me stay healthy but since I have had to take it down several notches I’ve found a few other ways to stay as active as possible.
I’ve definitely incorporated a few of those ideas
- taking Nala for extra long walks
- in recent weeks a few short jogs
- recipe development totally counts as cooking!
- shopping? I’m a Dietitian Food Blogger so trips to the grocery store take 3 times longer than they need too, at least I’m burning extra calories window shopping! (Also the reason why Mr. Hungry straight up refuses to go to the grocery store with me.)
Other ways I’ve been staying active? One important thing I do is stand at my desk instead of sitting, partially because standing feels better anyway but when I get tired of standing I remind myself you can burn around 30 extra calories an hour just standing, I’ll take it! I always remind my Hungry Hobby RD clients, it is the sum of many small changes day after day that add up to big change, so that is one of my little things.
Another one of those little things? Making sure I get enough protein to help with recovery from my injury and to help keep me full. Did you also know that you use up to 20% of calories from protein in digestion? Another way to burn a few extra without even realizing it! You guys know that I love the Chobani Simply yogurt so I was super excited to find out they have released a new product line called the simply crunch line.
Why do I love the simply line so much? The Chobani Simply 100® Crunch line is the first 100-calorie protein packed greek yogurt snack with mix ins, made only with natural, non-GMO ingredients. I usually recommend avoiding typical “100 calorie” packs because they are heavily processed, loaded with sugar and leave you hungry and craving more. However, these Chobani 100 calorie packs contain all natural greek yogurt, which means it has a 10gram protein punch to keep you satisfied. The indulgent sidecar of natural, crunchy ingredients are the bonus that takes your yogurt snack to a whole new level while keeping sugar in check at only 7grams. Don’t ignore your cravings, out smart them!
I wasn’t able to get to the store till yesterday when I FINALLY grabbed mine, but I immediately dug into the strawberry chocolate almost as I walked in the door. No surprise it was the BEST 3pm snack EVER! I’m planning to eat the other ones for healthy desserts, if I can manage to save them till the end of the day!
Make sure you head over to the new product line website to get your coupon and find a store near you! Hope you have a great weekend!
