A fun zesty and juicy Bloody Mary themed steak and shrimp kebob for your next backyard cookout! Paleo Friendly (gluten & dairy free)
Happy Hump Day friends! Today’s recipe was inspired by something my MIL made while I was overstaying my welcome (just kidding) in San Jose last month.
Her sister (my aunt in law? is that a thing?) had sent her some bloody mary mix which she used to marinate steak and chicken with. Isn’t that genius????
Unfortunately, the mix had some ingredients that aren’t great for Mr. Hungry like corn and soy. Luckily though, bloody mary mix is stupid easy to make and requires ingredients you likely already have in your cabinet!
If you couldn’t tell I had a ton of fun coming up with the “garnish” for these skewers. I looked at what seemed like a thousand pictures of Pinterest of bloody mary cocktails to see what goes with a bloody mary.
I was a little nervous about grilling pickles because I wasn’t sure how warm pickles would taste…. but I went for it anyway and I’m so glad I did!
The pickles stayed nice and crunchy because the meat cooks up pretty quick, the charring adds a fun depth of flavor you don’t usually get! For this recipe, I also used the steak tips that came in my last Butcher Box (used my link to get $10 off your first box and FREE bacon.)
Here is my affiliate link if you are thinking of trying it out! –> Butcher Box
In other news, I ran three miles on the treadmill at the gym yesterday which was torture. Well, technically I did 2.5 miles and walked uphill the rest. It was 116 out (although who is counting when it’s over 100) and it had to have been 95 degrees in the rec center.
It might be time to get a real gym membership instead of dropping by the rec center randomly for four dollars. I mostly workout at home since I just started the BBG program so I kind of do not want a gym membership.
For LISS cardio, I made this whole running schedule for myself but the struggle is real. When I wake up at 5 am and it’s already 85 out, running seems like a death sentence.
At least my birthday and America’s birthday is around the corner, the two best holidays ever. Thank you, Mom, for arranging that holiday weekend for me, that was swell of you!
How do you guys stay motivated in the summer?

Bloody Mary Steak & Shrimp Kabobs
Ingredients
Skewers:
- 8 Jumbo Shrimp
- 1 lb steak tips or steak
- 8 mini dill pickles
- 8 cherry tomatoes
- 4 celery stalks
Marinade:
- 1 cup tomato juice
- 1 tablespoon horseradish
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons gluten free Worcestershire
- 3 drops tobasco
- ¼ teaspoon celery salt
Garnish by placing skewers over celery stalks.
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients for marinade and pour in a storage bag with steak to marinade. Let sit in the marinade for at least four hours under refrigeration. As with all marinade, the longer the better up to 48 hours.
- Preheat grill to 400F.
- Skewer one piece of steak, a pickle, a shrimp, and a tomato, then repeat. I had enough for 4 skewers.
- Spray each side of the skewer with cooking spray. Place on the grill until steak is cooked medium well (or however you like it.) Make sure to check the temperature should get to 145 F degrees minimum. Turn them once halfway through, I turned mine about 3 minutes after they were on the grill. They cook fast!
