Hello friends! How was your week/weekend?
Mine was good, minus having a house full of sick kiddos. While I’ve enjoyed the lifted mask restrictions and the more lax attitude toward sniffles at KJ’s preschool, I will not miss the never-ending preschool colds this summer. Because our kids were sick, we kept the weekend pretty low-key, but we did do some fun things, which I’m sharing below! But, there was no dedicated post on Instagram or picture of us as a family this year. All we could do was “make it through” this weekend. KJ still has a ton of fatigue, and the baby has an ear infection, so whatever it was hit them hard. And then it hit one of the sitters hard too…. so you know, good times. But I think they are on the mend, so that’s good!
But, on the positive, I have a hair appointment today and can’t wait to get a little refresh from Brad!

What you may have missed this week –
KK’s Cake Smash Preview
Allie is a past client of mine. I’ve been following her on Instagram for a while, and she even helped me out shooting for a sponsored post I did a while back. Family and studio photography is her jam, so I decided to reach out about a cake smash photoshoot. Allie is PHENOMENAL with kids. I’ve seen that every time she’s been around my kids. So we went for it and it was so fun! I’m SOOOO glad we did it. I don’t think I’ve smiled continuously like that for 45 minutes straight in I don’t know how long. For me, the first year’s birthday is always such a huge milestone. These pictures are the best present I could have given KK and myself for his one-year birthday. (His birthday is this Monday, we will likely make a small homemade cake.)
Even though KK wasn’t feeling the best, he was a trooper and pulled through. The sneak previews above melt my heart. I can’t wait to see them all! I’ll be sure to share in KK’s one-year recap.
Smallcakes Cupcakes
After KK’s cake smash, Mr. Hungry and I drove immediately to Smallcakes. Allie told us they were the only place willing to make a dairy-free cake for the cake smash, and after we tried the little piece left of the cake, we were hooked. They had all kinds of cupcakes out for Mother’s Day, so we bought a half dozen (they weren’t dairy-free, that was a special order.) The thin mint cookie cupcake was my absolute FAVORITE.
Mother’s Day Eats
I went to mass with my in-laws on Saturday night while Mr. Hungry watched the kids, which was good because the kids were BEAT by Sunday. We took absolutely zero pictures, so that tells you how it went, haha But, my FIL did make egg chorizo burritos for breakfast which hit the spot after we went on an hour-long walk!
McCormick Stillman Train Park
We can call the photo above the official Mother’s Day photo since I didn’t get one on Mother’s Day. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to see my Mom on Mother’s Day, so on Wednesday, when the kids were feeling a bit better, we took them to the McCormick Stillman Train Park. I’d been there once before on the weekend during the holidays, and I have to say, the experience was seven billion times more relaxing this time. There were just a few other families there, and the weather was just gorgeous. I think the kids had a great time, and so did we!
Food
Here are a few eats from this week…..
We ate my TJ’s broccoli slaw salad with TJ’s burgers and frozen fries (cooked in the air fryer) for TJ’s winning meal on Monday! We all agreed the burgers from TJ’s were very flavorful and juicy, so that was a win!
And I’ve been super into eggs for lunch recently! Usually, I hardly even take the time to eat lunch, instead opting for smoothies for me so I can keep doing what I need to do. But, this week, I made my old standby of egg toast with carrots and hummus. It’s probably because I stopped by Great Harvest and got some fresh sourdough and rye bread, so I was all about needing to eat that!
Fitness
Thanks to the kids being sick, I missed a couple of workouts, but overall, fitness felt good this week! Plus, we still got lots of walking in. Sometimes I didn’t want to go for a walk, but I thought it was good for the kids to be in the sunshine, and it was an excellent way to keep them seated and resting.
