Dear Baby KK, you are six months old!
Six months feels like a huge milestone to pass! You are now an “older” baby. You eat food, you sleep through the night, and you are trying to crawl. You made it through your first cold and, despite being congested, mainly were happy. I was surprised to learn at your pediatrician appointment that you had a double ear infection. I would have never known because you are such a happy little boy. The night before, you slept 12 hours!
Your brother at 6 months:
Speaking of sleep, you are still on the three nap a day schedule. You need to be held for that last nap of a day, or it isn’t happening. So, right now, we do whatever it takes to make sure you get that nap so we can make it to bedtime without a meltdown.
And because without that nap, you get so overtired you actually wake up approximately 9 billion times at night. Usually, that means some extra TV time for KJ while you nap in my arms (usually while nursing), and dinner ends up being a little later.
I know you’ll probably drop that nap by the end of the month, so this is my last chance to snuggle you for a whole nap. For the first two naps of the day, you like to put yourself to sleep. Transferring you after rocking you to sleep doesn’t work anymore, so I’m cherishing that last nap, even if it’s a bit inconvenient. The photo below was snapped after you fell asleep nursing, probably for one of the last times before your nursing gets too quick and your sleep too consolidated for that to happen!
After completing the TCB ABCs of Sleep program a month ago, at night, you go down to bed by putting yourself to sleep, and you sleep until 5-7 am with one dream feed. You are still nursing every 2-3 hours, but you are also eating food one time per day.
You’ve had:
- green beans
- carrots
- bananas
- applesauce
- avocado
- pumpkin
- summer squash
- sweet potato
I make your food using the Beaba Neo Babycook, which I love! It’s fast, efficient, glass plus stainless steel, and easy to operate and clean. I enjoy whipping up new things for you all the time!
You have food once a day right now and sometimes a few extra ounces of formula after the dream feed. This seems to be working as your growth has been steady! You are in the 75th percentile for height, 25th percentile for head circumference, and 30th percentile for weight. You were 27 inches long and 15lbs 8 ounces at your doctor’s appointment. We have no idea where your very light brown, almost blonde with strawberry tint hair came from. It’s very Irish-looking, which is fitting since we gave you an Irish middle name!
You love to be anywhere your brother is, and you spend most of your time hanging out in tummy time trying to figure out how to get to all the toys he won’t’ let you play with. It’s funny because tummy time never really bothered you. You are happy to be on your tummy for long periods.
And now you’ve started to figure out how to get your body up off the floor and kind of launch forward. Not entirely on all fours, but almost. It’s so fun to see the differences in likes and dislikes between you and your brother. Your big brother hated tummy time but was a great sitter pretty quickly and walked right at one year. You are still somewhat unsteady sitting but, you are army crawling and rolling around a lot. Your big brother kicked his feet non-stop, so much so that we had to put the swing down early because he was launching himself in it whereas you are content to hang out and chew on your feet. Unless you are hungry or tired, you’re a happy baby.
Your favorite toys are the baby einstein toy, your nookums stuffed animals (no paci though, you hate those), and the banana teether. You love the stroller with the car seat or the standard attachment. You are ticklish around your collar bone. You have an infectious gummy smile and deep throaty laugh.
I love you so much my sweet little KK, I know by the end of the next 6 months you’ll be into everything and working to keep up with your brother. I’m going to hang on to and cherish every single moment of babyhood we have left together. I get a little teary-eyed thinking how quick it went and how lucky I am to be your Mama!
