Hi, friends! I’m back sharing the another recipe from my segment celebrating National Hot N’ Spicy Day on Good Morning Arizona.
We actually didn’t get to the smoothie recipe on the segment, but that is okay because I’m sharing it now!
This smoothie is packed with healthy filling plant-based fats from coconut milk, refreshing fruit, and a zing of ginger for flavor! Although ginger isn’t the first spice that comes to mind when we think of hot and spicy food, many people do perceive it as spicy. It is actually frequently used to add heat and flavor to Indian as well as Asian cooking.
Gingerol, found in the roots natural oils, is the most bioactive component of ginger. Ginger is available fresh or in a ground powder, however, gingerol is highest in the fresh form.
Ginger has a number of health benefits but it is probably most well known for its anti-nausea abilities especially in the case of chemotherapy and morning sickness. It has also been studied for its potential role in fighting inflammation, lowering muscle pain post exercise, lowering fasting blood sugar, lowering cholesterol and fighting cancer.

Ginger adds a little zing of flavor and health benefits to this delicious and refreshing smoothie! This smoothie has a decent amount of healthy fat, but if you want to make more of a meal out of it, you could add some collagen or whey protein powder. (See How To Make A Smoothie A Meal)
I’m not sure why I thought the stucco would make a wonderful background for this smoothie. I must have been delusional taking pictures in the middle of the afternoon again in 100+ degree heat. Do you guys have stucco where you live?
It’s pretty much all we build things out of in Arizona these days. If you come here you will see stucco for days, you will start to think there are no other building materials to be used. You might also wonder why everyone wants their house the same color as the land? Just a few of the things I’ve been pondering lately.

Marianne says
I almost never cook with ginger and never in a smoothie! I’m going to try this and add the whey powder as you suggested for a bit of a meal.
Thanks!

Just made this and it’s absolutely delicious! In fact, the honey wasn’t even necessary because it was so sweet by itself. I used soy milk instead of almond milk and it tasted great.

That’s fantastic Thomas! I don’t use honey either but my hubby likes things a little sweeter it’s always hard to know how to publish the recipe! Enjoy!
