Hi Friends! Scattered Monday is in full swing. I just can’t seem to get things roped and under control until Monday night lately! That’s okay at least I get under control at some point! Let’s back up a bit though to a few scenes from this weekend which was basically a mix of this-
and this—>
This morning one of the trainers at the gym I’m going to be teaching group fitness at asked me what we did this weekend and I simply stared blankly back at her. It was almost like the weekend had never happened. When I finally thought about it long enough a few scenes came back to me like working out and lot’s of iced coffee. How could I forget chocolate macadamia iced coffee from dutch brothers?
New Workout Gear
I also don’t know how I could forget getting new workout cloths either! This happened 100% because Mr. Hungry said I looked like a homeless lady wearing his old long sleeveless tanks and faded college shorts. So I got two new pairs of carpri’s for $20 bucks from Costco and a few shirts at Target. Super great quality adidas pants for cheap, win win win! Missy wasn’t getting out of the picture no matter what I did.
Theranos Lab Testing & Low Iron
Yesterday we hung around and watched sports while I finished up the semester grades for the class I teach. I love teaching and am always sad when the semester is over but I really enjoyed reading about how much they had learned on their final! Sunday night I decided to try out direct testing at Theranos. I send my clients there frequently for lab tests since legally RD’s can’t order lab tests, luckily in AZ Theranos provides direct testing that you do not need a Physician lab order for. I decided to run an anemia panel to check out how my iron supplementation was going (see my post on Iron: Foods, Functions & Facts). The cool thing is you can just order whatever you want, download the ap, and wait for the results. The not so cool thing is I’m still low despite eating plenty of iron sources from food, and supplementing.
I have a few theories about what is going on here, but I’ll keep those to myself for now until I know for sure (no I’m not pregnant). One thing is for certain, I’m clearly not absorbing the iron I’m intaking.
So that sucks, I’ll be switching to a prenatal or women’s multi with iron and continuing my night time dose (again, not pregnant). I definitely thought it would have gone up by now since most of my bruising went away. However, I did develop a gnarly bruise on my arm just by pushing on it so I figured that wasn’t a great sign. I always coach my clients that the body is always sending you signs that something is wrong way before it becomes catastrophic you just have to tune in and listen, that’s the hard part!
Scattered Monday
This morning has been a world wind already! I started by walking Nala, slamming a protein bar and banana before heading to the gym.
I love working out in the mornings but hate the late start on work, it’s a delicate balance! When I got home I had some chia pudding with 3 ounces green yogurt, 2T chia seeds, 1/2cup almond milk, 1 heaping spoonful of chocolate pb2.
I’m off to pre-write some posts for the week, follow up with clients, tackle my inbox, talk with some great Nutrition Entrepreneur DPG Dietitians, and submit photos. It’s going to be a busy afternoon, luckily Nala and I can jam out to google play music stations. I know it’s afternoon but I still like the Best Morning Ever station.
PS I’ve received some messages asking if my low iron might have to do with me expecting, I can assure you this is not currently the reason for my lack of iron absorption. I’m not totally sure what is, but it isn’t that.
